So I saw the news tonight about the illegal alien costume. I noticed that some people found it offensive due to the fact about immigration and many people going to other countries illegally. However, the description had sad that he is illegal alien from another planet and has come with his own illegal green card. I could see how some people may be offended. However, it didn't offend me at all. Moreover, it's an outer space alien. I've seen much worse costumes before, plus I thought Halloween was supposed to be fun. Anywho, I want to hear your opinions. Does it offend you? Would you consider wearing this costume? Here is the news link to read further details: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,568064,00.html Cheers and happy mylotting!

Well I am not personally offended by it, but I think there is enough anger, and hatred spread around this world regarding all human beings without the help of Halloween costumes. Regardless what the "description" says it is, it is evident what it's truly meant for. Yes they use an outer space alien mask, but have you seen what pictures or drawings are posted inside some of the immigration officials stations? At the little immigration jail that sits at the border of California and Arizona several years ago they had a drawing of a green alien head much like that of the costume with a big fat red X over it. There was another one not exactly the same but quite similar hung up at the Seattle Immigration Jail. I wouldn't be surprised if something of the like is in many other immigration offices too. As far as many "people" are concerned, immigrants are exactly that "Aliens" or something of lesser value. They don't consider the fact that immigrants too are people, they have feelings, thoughts, and bleed red blood just like everyone else. Yes Halloween is supposed to be fun, but at what expense?

Well it totally depends on the perception and original cause for me to be "offensive". If it was made to offend then I'd be upset. However, it appears by the owners they weren't trying to be offensive. I guess, as you say, immigrants could be offended due to the fact that many people have used similar images before to make fun of them. Some stores are not selling them due to the feedback they have received.

Yea! I'm giving you the best response because you gave a viewpoint of both sides and you used supporting details. Happy posting on myLotting. Happy New Year 2010!

Yeah it could be perceived many ways I guess. I've been thinking about it and really if they were to take out the "green card" part of it, then it wouldn't be so bad. While the owners say they had no intentions on offending anyone it's really hard telling you know? Only they can truly know what they were thinking when the designed it. For me it's not so much about being politically correct, it's more valuing each and every human being for what they are,.. human. I wish there was an easy way to solve many problems regarding immigration, and other situations as well but, unfortunately there isn't. Good discussion here and happy mylotting.

I think it's actually kind of cute. I wouldn't be offended by it and wouldn't be thinking about it being a hit on the illegals. Halloween is supposed to be fun and I have seen alot worse than that too.

Yea that's what some people said on the news. That they just thought it was good for Halloween. Would you go and wear that?

Cool! Would you be offended if your friends wore it? Do you think it was news worthy and do you think it was offensive?

I don´t think it is as offensive as it is stupid. I don´t have that sense of humor. Why not just make an alien costume? The mask is ok. I don´t see the need of using the word "illegal" or the green card (which, by the way, is only used by the US). THe only reason anyone can see as to the use of the word illegal and the green card is that is has another meaning behind the nice outer space mask.

I see what you're saying about that it has to do with immigrants. I guess the design is stupid, but it seems like people are buying it.

I think this is PC gone mad. In my country we have had to change many things to be considered politically correct and its madness. Why is this offensive? I think too many people are looking for something to complain about. Lets just see that its a bit of fun and doens't mean that society is going to go nuts and cause problems for each other.

Exactly, in a way that's what I thought. If we complain about every little thing that is offensive I think we would lose lots of time in our lives. We must pick and choose our battles. I don't think this one would be one worth fighting for.
