Gawker.com apparently has an exclusive from 25 year old Robert Thomas, a researcher who says that he was privy to the plans of Richard Heene, Balloon Boy's father.
Gawker says that one of the ideas that Thomas and Heene were planning in order to get media attention was a weather balloon made to look like a UFO that they would launch into the air, hoping that people would call news stations thinking they had seen a UFO. Thomas claims he had no idea that little Falcon would be in any way involved.
Gawker paid for the story.

You know that when I first saw the story I thought the flying object really looked like a saucer and was really impressed by its ability to glide and maneuvre when I realised that was secondary to the issue of the boy's safety.Consequently now that you are saying that it was made to be UFO sighting ,I can actually believe that .

True, especially since we got confirmation from their local authorities today that it was indeed a hoax. I am just so disgusted by these people. That poor child was vomiting from his guilt in being a part of this lie, and he probably got yelled at after the Wolf Blitzer interview for blowing their cover, and his father just ignored him while he sat there throwing up on The Today Show...I want to take the parents and smack their heads together.

I would also like to smack the heads together of the parents because what they did was just wrong. Don't these people have lives and better things to do with their lives than cause trouble and fake things up for media attention? getting that little boy involved was also very wrong and at least the boy had the sense to tell the truth. What does that boy know better than his parents?
