Troll?

I've been away from mylot a few years, and I guess I need to re-learn a word. That word is troll. Maybe this sounds stupid, but mylot has changed-alot!
Before we called someone who went around undeservedly giving you a - rating as a troll. Now it seems that if you respond to a discussion and you disagree with it you are a troll. Ive seen people called trolls for posting articles not written by them.
Someone please tell me just what exaclty is a troll?

MyLot has indeed changed just as everything else has over the years.

It is now no longer possible to rate any user more than 11 times in one 24 hour period. Disagreeing with others can sometimes be healthy. It depends on how the disagreement is conducted.

Thanks for the info. I just looked it up.
I cant even rate anyone at all, I dont know whats up with that. I normally only rated in my own discussions anyway.
It seems to me that by the definition of troll, that almost any debate could be defined as trolling if its controversial and there is dissention.
Mylot seems to have calmed down alot, I remember the debates and how heated they would get! I guess many are afraid of being labeled a troll.

New users have to wait patiently until they reach 100 to be able to rate others. This was something introduced recently by myLot to avoid vengeance rating by users (who could be defined as trolls) who returned again and again for the sole purpose of damaging other Lotters.
There are many Lotters who do know how to debate but they tend to stay away from those discussions which become a playground for those who are here for completely other reasons. Sad but that's progress I guess

hello torch,
i agree with you that mylot is different now than before. before it was hell because not only trolls rate us negatively, they also give out bad comments and responses on our discussions. after that they started rating people negatively, but mylot had done something about that and now rating is limited.
trolls are nothing more than people who wanted to produce hate among people in the site, if you fight back then it's the positive feed back on the troll. the best thing to do is ignore it and don't let it disturb you and it will die. well, look at it now, we are seeing more blue and red stars than ever. good luck here with mylot

Isnt the idea of flaming, fanning, or trolling somewhat subjective?
