Are You A Coffee Snob?

Canada
October 18, 2009 10:29am CST
I will admit to being a big one!!! My husband and I uare used to coffee from Second Cup (a Canadian chain of coffee shops that are like Starbucks only 1,000,000 times BETTER!!!). This morning Hubby and I went with my mother and step-dad to McDonalds for breakfast, and ordered coffee. They were convinced that it was better than it used to be, but I still coudln't drink it. it just dind't taste right. My husband likes Second Cup coffee (he LOVES IT!!) but when it all comes down to it, he'll drink Instant Coffee, if that's all that available. I, on the other hand, would rather drink NOTHING, than have a bad cup of coffee. So tell me, are you a coffee snob, or will you drink just about anything? What's your favourite coffee, and why?

I won't drink instant, don't care for perked, but will drink almost any kind of coffee it its made by drip. the worst coffee (besides instant and perked) was too strong, made by a German lady and it tasted burnt as well I'm no coffee snob, or I'd be drinking the stuff black, but I won't do that

@rebelann My parents had a drip coffee pot for as long as I remember. It wasn't until the late 1970s that they shelled out for a coffee maker.

In the 1960s mom always made brewed coffee which required us to use a strainer so we would not have coffee grinds in our cup of jo @ElicBxn It was very tasty though, the drip coffee she eventually made later on was never quite as good.

I guess I tend to drink what is available, however it is not as likely that I will have coffee if I expect it to be a disaster. But I often drink old folgers or maxwell house in the morning. I have never seen Second Cup in the U.S., but we love Tim Horton's. I think that overall McDonalds has improved their coffee a lot. But if you go there in the afternoon or evening, you still run the risk of getting coffee that has been on the burner for a couple of hours. Such coffee can never be good.

sort of.i mean,it doesn't have to be expensive shop ground, but i don't like the bottom of the barrel generic supermarket coffee either. our local dunkin donuts makes a pretty good hazelnut. my friends from winnipeg are addicted to tim horton's.they always tell me how good it is.

Hi! I guess if you put it that way, then i am a coffee snob. I will not drink just any coffee. I really despise instant coffee. If it is a cup that i buy, then i prefer coffee from Pilot. But if it is coffee from home, i make my own mix. My coffee has to be just right, or i will not drink it. So yes, i guess i am a coffee snob, lol.

Yeah. I guess you could say that my husband and I are coffee snobs too. I will not drink the cheap stuff. It just tastes too watered down for me. I will only drink good flavored coffee.

I am definitely a coffee snub and proud of it. My best choice is the Folgers ground coffee Classic Roast Blend. Its availalbe in Trinidad at Pricesmart. Nothing else we have in Trinidad can compare with this, in my confirmed opinion. Not even the other flavoured Folgers coffee blends found in the supermarkets. Ground coffee is the better blend because it keeps the coffee flavour. Also you need to use a metal perculator and not a plastic one. The plastic reduces and changes the coffee flavour. We have in Trinidad a chain of coffee shops called Rituals which also serves very good coffee and doughnuts. But I still go for my Folgers Classic Roast - the best ever !

I'm not a coffee fan, I do like Chai Tea and I've had it from Starbucks and Panera. I like it from Panera better so I guess I'm a Chai Tea snob.

I like all coffee but, I like mine made at home best of all. I'm not really into flavored coffee. I will drink a few but, they are really not my first choice.

I am a snob in a way because I pride myself for knowing what is good coffee and what is not There are a lot of coffee shops here in our place and I think most of them are too preoccupied with making their shops cozy and beautiful that they do not know that their coffee is...well, not good coffee. So I do not go to those coffee shops. But I need coffee to survive so I can drink whatever is available. I can have instant coffee and those 3-in-1 sachets if I have to. I complain but I drink them anyway

If I could make the coffee the way mom used to I would go back to drinking coffee but anymore I only have a cup of hot water flavored with honey, lemon and ginger.

Well I have to admit that when it comes to coffee I will drink just about anything but then that is because I don't actually like coffee and usually I will only drink it when I am desperately trying to stay awake. Hence I am never really drinking it for its flavour, more just really for the effect it has on my mind!

Well, I am about to say something that you might consider blasphemy, but, I actually don't like the taste of coffee all that much. I never really started drinking it back in high school when my parents would actually allow me to drink it (before that they were very firm with a "NO" when I would ask for a cup). Now, I will occasionally drink a cup for the caffeine if I don't have a soda or I'm cold and trying to warm up. If I do have a cup, I have to out in a bunch of cream and sugar for me to enjoy it(well sort of). Hey, more coffee for you, right?

Yeah, I get that, coffee by itself does not taste good at all. I used to put a little coffee in my milk though I don't do that at all anymore.

Well, very seldom will you find me drinking a cup of coffee, or mocha, etc. anywhere. I am very picky when it comes to this for sure. But for me the Best I have found is Starbucks. Even if they are more expensive than the rest of them out there, you cannot beat the quality of the Coffee taste coming from them for sure. I feel in this instance it is worth the price you pay.

My oldest daughter has developed a taste for Starbucks. I would never turn one down, but I think I prefer a bit more mild taste, like Tim Horton's. Either way, it is a hundred times better than what comes out of the bottom of my coffee can at home. djbtol

I am mad after coffee. I am very particular about the taste and consistency. I neither want it very strong or very light. It should be medium. More sugar makes me go mad. sugar should be moderate. Milk just to make it brown. That is why we make filter coffee at home. We buy coffee day make coffee powder, make in the coffee filter. I tried coffee maker. But nothing to beat filter coffee. Come home I will give you many glasses of coffee and I am sure you will not return to your place back. For coffee's sake you will stay in my house only. Ha Ha Ha.

I like to experiment with coffees. Do you take black coffee or do you take coffee with milk. We in Tamilnadu, India, are knows as coffee freaks. For us we need the filter coffee,i.e roasted coffee beans with chicory added with fresh buffolo milk and sugar. The coffee should be golden brown in color. That is how I used to have my coffee early in the morning for the major part of the life. But now it is mostly instant coffee, because there is no time to roast and grind the coffee beans and put it in the coffee filter, and wait for it to percolate. So it is BRU or NESCAFE.(Our brands of instant coffee)

Sometimes you have to take what you can get. I have also found that I change the way I drink my coffee from time to time. I have never roasted beans, but I like to buy the beans and grind them.

Nope! No Coffee Snob here. I actually don't drink coffee all that often. I will drink it if I am really tired and need to function, but if I am doing that then I really don't care where the coffee comes from or what size it is. I do have to say though that I actually like McDonalds mocha coffee, it tastes really good, kind of like a dessert, but otherwise I don't care where coffe comes from, although I have had some really good coffee.

Hi, danishcanadian. No, I am not a coffee snob in any way. I don't drink coffee if it does not taste good. I like mines to taste just right. My favorite coffee is, Starbuck's. I love the styrofoam cup that it comes in. I like this brand because you have many to choose from. I also like Folger's or Taster's Choice. They are very natural when it comes to drinking wise.

Hi danishcanadian, Well for myself, I've tried Starbucks, Tim Horton's' Second Cup and have to admit that I now prefer Caffe Artigiano or Bean Brothers. I don't know what part of Canada you live in? I live in Vancouver and they're quite popular here. I suppose they are trendy, but many people admit that the coffees there are quite superior. Starbucks I find tends to have a more bitter, stronger taste. Although I do like hanging out at Starbucks because I like the ambiance, the clientele and just listening to the music. However, I just personally really enjoy the flavor of their coffees at Caffee Aritigiano & Starbucks, plus they also decorate it with that little leaf pattern on top too. Now if I'm purchasing coffee from a store, I'll buy Columbian beans or vanilla and grind that myself. Years ago I remember I tried coffee at Bread Garden which I think has the WORST coffee, extremely bitter, tastes quite burnt in fact. Am I a coffee snob? Well I wouldn't say that but I am picky the way that I am about just about everything.
