Can Only Christians go to Heaven?

I got an email from a friend who was so excited because a friend just had a baby. She was concerned because the babies parents weren't Christians and thought the baby wouldn't be raised Christian and would never go to Heaven. I said just because your a Christian that doesn't mean your going to Heaven. If your a Christian and treat your fellow man/woman terribly that's not really being a Christian. If your not a Christian but treat people with kindness, love and compassion I think you'll go to Heaven. I also told her it's not up to us to judge either. What do you think, do you think only Christians can go to Heaven?

Anyone can go to Heaven as long as you do good here on earth. I don't believe religion will be the basis of going to Heaven.

Actually Christians are those that follow Christ. It does not mean that if a person calls himself a Christian will go to heaven, but it means that only true Christians who believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, and seek to obey God will go to heaven. That means that no Muslim, Brahman, pagan, etc. and Jew after the ascension of Christ into the HEAVENS will go to heaven. We are not going to meet a whole lot of good people from all faiths, including those who deny Jesus as the son of God in heaven.

Sometimes being raised into a sect of religion can be a bad thing. It would probably be better for this child to grow and seek the true of Bible scriptures on their own.

Ya, I had a teacher in grade school who belonged to a religion where they were supposed to examine different religions when there kids and than decide on one. That's pretty liberal it sure make the kids accept all people.

Yes, being born and raised in sects of religions are comparable to birth defects. I was a person that was not born and raised into any religion. I remember as a child being sent to Bible school. I didnt learn much about religion as i was a pre schooler. It was just fun to me then. Later in life i had questions about some scriptural things. So i went in search of Bible truths. I do belive i have found one that is actually non denominational. Many people dont like them, but they didnt like Jesus either. I believe they are the only ones whos teaching are from the Bible. They have the true teachings. They are called Jahovah witnesses.

Of course, only christians can go to heaven. Do you think any sensible non-christian would go to the heaven where christians go to ? Just imagine. If all the theologians, priests, fanatics and blind believers go to ehaven, then it would be a horrible place. I would neevr go to such a place.

You feel sorry for me? HA HA HA! Go feel sorry for yourself. If such a god as described in Bible exists, I have nothing to do with him.

Where is the justice? How could God condemn people who aren't christian if He didn't guarantee that everyone judged had a copy of the bible???? There are people in the world who have never heard or seen the bible. God belongs to no religion. I don't either. I just follow God. If you follow religions, you are following the will of men. Search your own path to God. you will find the real truth a lot sooner. Everyone will know God and His unconditional love that heals all hurt. Could you deny your children heaven??? Think about it. We are meant to think!! A Being capable of creating a universe surely can handle a few wayward kids without that fiery pit. Funny isn't it. God didn't give everyone a bible. Hmm??? Ever wonder why not???? I think you know!!

I have thought about this since I was a kid because I had a best mate at the time and she was atheist and I was Christian and I used to think that because Jesus taught that God was a God of love, that He would never send my little innocent friend to hell just because she said she did not believe. I agree with you totally. I think there is a difference between Christ's word and the religion we call Christianity that grew up in his name. Think of the horrors committed by Christianity like the crusades for one thing. People are mad if they think Jesus would have approved of chopping muslims up. I personally think Jesus was a special man with a good message for the world but other cultures have their own messengers and the only difference is culture. If we think about it, it is a sick and disturbing thing to tell someone that they will go to hell if they don't believe in some nonsense about Christ's mother being a virgin or something like that. Christ lived his life showing love and so-called 'Christians' should learn from that. Have I ranted on a bit? xxx

No, don't worry about the ranting it was interesting. Just as you said, I brought up some situations where people acted just horribly to others and called themselves Christians. My friend still didn't accept the fact that Christians wouldn't go to Heaven. She kept saying well than you don't believe the Bible.
19 Oct 09
To keep the peace you and your friend have to agree to disagree because she sounds steadfast in her opinion. As one of your other responders pointed out, it does say quite a bit in the Bible about people who put on a show of being good and Christian and yet God sees into their heart so he won't be fooled. The Bible was written by lots of different people (I don't believe it was written by God - using a big heavenly pen?) and there is lots of good stuff that is really insightful but also some weird stuff, so people who say we should take every word literally probably haven't read the weird bits. When I was a kid I used to find strange things and ask my Sunday school teacher about them who never had an answer! For example, somewhere it says that if a woman is raped, God will consider her a sinner if she doesn't marry her rapist!

Logically speaking..YES only Christians go to Heaven since only a Christian of some degree or another believes in Heaven (or Hell for that matter)....

I don't think so. There are many Christians who commit many sins more than those who don't even go to church or who don't believe in God. I have nothing wrong with Christians,I am a devoted Catholic infact, but I should say that not all Christians don't commit sins and not all Christians are sinners.

we have the trust of our own religion, and if you do not have a religion you can still go to heaven. Only god knows, because our lives are governed and everything outlined from birth until the last breath.

It's so weird to see people that still think that whoever isn't christian is going to hell/doesn't have a soul. I mean, come on! this belief is soooo 12th century! XD I actually don't believe in hell and heaven, but I think that good deeds are being rewarded- so yeah, just go out and do something good for others. ^^

I don't think so. Just think about this, people belongs to ethnic tribes don't know the Bible, Koran or any other religious books. Thus this mean they will go all to Hell when they die? I don't think so.How about those who are special children, the mentally ill persons since birth? They don't know how to read the Bible and doesn't comprehend to its teachings. But the best thing I's assure is having a spot in Heaven is between me and my God only (not religion). Just my taught, anyway.

Well Fulltank, as I have mentioned in my response, the ethnic tribes will have their own version of heaven. You have raised a very very valid point, how about the mentally ill persons since birth ? As per the Christians, these people will be sent to hell.

i think there is no such place as we call "heaven" for me it's a feeling after doing good and being compassionate and kind. and there is no particular religion that could bring us to heaven..because first there is no place called "heaven" anyone could feel like they're in heaven, meaning feeling great and good after you do good thing to fellow without thinking what they might gave you in return.

hii friend every human can go to heaven by live like a kind person. every religion tells that you have a kind nature, you helps everyone then you can go to heaven.. it is not true, that if you are not a christian, you can not go to heaven. heaven is on the earth, if you helps everyone then everyone will love you, and then you feel heaven on the earth. so please show humanity to all and feel the heaven....

Actually only Christians go to Heaven because only through Christ will you be saved. Now Christ in the Old Testament appeared as the angel of God and that meant up until Jesus ascended into heaven, the Jews were the chosen people and the only way other nations could go to heaven was if they became Jews. Now as for your friend's concern, even though her friends are not Christians, that does not mean at some point the baby will when he or she gets older have Christian friends or perhaps God will grant a desire in his or her heart to learn more about the Bible. The idea that because the parents are pagan or Muslim or what have you, that child is doomed never to know about Christ is fatalism and that has no place in God's love for us. So your friend should pray that this child and his or her parents will be brought to know of the love of Jesus and not to give up in despair. Oh and not all good people do not go to heaven. The Pharisees were righteous, gave tithes, helped widows and few of them went to heaven. If only good people go to heaven, then what about the thief on the cross. He was the type who would rob a man blind and beat him up in the process. In fact, he may have been one of the robbers who beat up that man that the Samaritan found.

I am spiritual, but not religious. However, I was raised going to evangelical Pentecostal churches with my mom and Methodist church with my dad. All of the churches I ever went to believed that only Christians go to Heaven, because it was created by a Christian god. They preached that Christians are responsible for "spreading the word" and that they will have to answer to God in the afterlife for all the souls they didn't witness to and try to save (from Hell). This was their motivation for sending missionaries to Africa and other places, turning them into Christians and saving them from Hell. They also taught that good deeds weren't enough to get a person into Heaven, that you basically have to call ahead and make reservations by "inviting Jesus to be your personal saviour (from Hell)." Obviously, I've always had major issues with all of this. What kind of "Loving Father" sends his children to eternal torture for not knowing about him? And what about all the people born before Christ? I think if there is an afterlife, good deeds on earth will be much more valuable than a "saved" stamp in my passport. This is why I say I am spiritual but not religious. Helping and loving others, being kind to one another, and treating the earth, our home, with care and respect are the most important values to me. And if there is a god, I think he or she will appreciate the effort in trying to take care of his or her creations and encouraging others to do so. I do think all are entitled to their own beliefs and that it's not our place to judge - only time will tell who's right and who's wrong! :)

Yes, I know I was raised a Christian as well. I had very liberal parents and they always told me never to judge and that you have to be very good to go to Heaven and it's not just the fact that your a Christian you have to act like one as well. Maybe, they were just trying to get me to behave myself.

I am Christian but I do NOT think that only Christians can get to heaven. After all, the Jews are the "Chosen People." I believe that God is love. I believe God loves all people. I do not presume to judge. Some questions are too big for me.

I agree with you. I really believe that God is love and he sees everything, even if some people don't know him, he knows us and sees what we do so if we're good people He'll take us to Heaven.

For me, I dont's think so with that belief. It's only God who can answer that! Because he said in the Bible, Not all people that says, "My God! My God!" can go to Heaven. What we should do everyday is to keep Hios Commandments. Seek for the Light and the Light will lead you into the truth! Make god as the center of your life!
