Just checked my yahoo e-mail and had a message from paypal in my in box! It said my account had been compromised and to click this site to get my features re-instated! I've seen here where there's been problems lately, so I investigated further, the sender was paypal-media? Ah! That was my first clue, I opened a new tab and went to my account and looked at it, no problems, I also noted there was no "media" any where on their pages! Just wanted to give all here a heads up! Be alert for paypal-media in a return address! Did you ever have a problem like this? What did you do? Will you be more careful in the future about your online accounts? What will you do? Thanks and stay alert! tdemex

Yes, I received that email about a several years ago. My email proggy allows me to make a rule to send important emails directly to their own folder. I was leery when this one didn't go direct into my PayPal folder. I like you, opened my PayPal account & began to look around to see what was wrong. I believe there is a "Security" tab where PayPal was asking the members to send them a copy of the email so they could try & track it. I copied the email & pasted into their little "report" box & submitted it. Sure enough PayPasl responded not long after that, that it was indeed a hoax email & they were in the process of tracking down who sent it out. They indicated that they attempt to prosecute anyone they can catch & thanked me for me effort. They suggested I change my password immediately just in case. I immediately logged off, opened up another window & logged back in & changed my password. Then I sent an email to ALL my address book warning them to NOT go to the link if they received a similar email as it was a hoax. This was before the term phishing had been coined.

Thanks for the info! I'm also a long time user and this was the first time anything like this has happened to me, I've been very lucky! I have a paypal mastercard and use it a lot and that's what I was worried about the most! I do get a lot of mail from them because of this. The page looked just like their normal mail but they were asking for my login info? That's what alerted me! I was lucky, I'm not a newbie at this, age does have some benefits! LOL! Take care and thanks again! tdemex

Age definitely has its own set of benefits. Phishing had not been heard of when I received my email, yet every hair on the back of my neck stood up & screamed NO WAY!!! It was an excellent reproduction of PayPal's emails right down to the logo.

I have heard about this from a friend. Sadly, she wasn't careful and she lost her money. Even if it wasn't for a big amount, still, it's hard-earned money.
One might think that things like these wouldn't happen to them and sometimes we have the tendency to be too trusting.
I haven't encountered this but I am also aware that it doesn't mean it wouldn't happen, right ? Thanks for reminding me about this again, I have actually forgotten about it. I'll try be very careful and be always on my toes.
Regards.

I'm sorry to hear that your friend lost her money. I guess the only good thing that resulted from this incident is that your friend learned her lesson about security, but of course, it would have been better if she didn't learn the lesson the hard way. We are lucky that we are able to learn from other people's experiences.

You have just reminded me that I keep getting one from Liberty Reserve where I haven't got an account neither now or in the past. They keep telling my account is blocked. How can that be the case if I haven't got one?!

Someone got into our paypal account but, it wasn't even from something like that. My husband's paypal account got hacked somehow and the idiot tried to transfer one million dollars from our checking to our paypal Of course a transaction that large required a few days and after buying something on ebay I see the transaction pending and it took many phone calls to paypal to get the transaction stopped.

Hey Zeph, good day to ya! Woow that's some chunk of change! I couldn't imagine that amount, my measly balance got my ticker pumping! But we both made it, Right! Get any snow in the gateway to the big "O" yet? Can't say I miss it! My friends in Detroit tell me how bad it is there! Haven't been in the area for about 10 years! No snow yet but, it's been in the 20's and have had frost already. I can't remember snow in October since I was really little I've seen snow reported in certain parts of Michigan but, not Detroit specifically.

Please keep in mind that paypal has nothing to do with this! They may be able to issue an alert to their users but there isn't much else they can do! Except maybe try to get this site shut down? This is a phishing attempt to get your log in info so they can empty out what ever you have in your account. This freaked me out because it was the first time this has ever happened! Take care and stay alert! Thanks ! tdemex

This tends to make me a bit nervous, mostly because I'm very new to all of this. I just signed up for a PayPal account not two weeks ago. Does it help that it's only just a free one as of now, do you know? I hope so! And, thanks for the heads-up!

I have gotten these before even with saying this about my main Email account, etc. At least if they do it with my Gmail account it ends up in my Spam folder. But people do need to watch things like this for sure, as you never know what kind of information you could be giving them if you don't. And with all the problems already in todays world who needs anything more?

I second that thought! I'm real lucky some other Mylotter posted an alert on this issue, it helped me keep up my guard. I do a lot of business with paypal and am used to getting mail from them but this one, even though it looked so real struck me as odd, and sure enough it was! tdemex was on his toes! LOL! Thanks! Hi td, I've never trusted the online security of this type of thing and paypal has been the first I've used. I had the money sat there and each time I tried to transfer it gave up in frustration at yet more information required. So finally on this mylot pay day I tried to transfer the lot out, only to be told I had to re do all the security questions again as someone had been tring to access my account that week.
Thanks for the heads up, all I've had from them since the balance is zero is a survey which I promptly deleted.

Hey, I know everyone here has paypal. Keep in mind this is not their security, it's a phishing scam to get your info. I know your a little challenged in this area! But it looks very real. I have a paypal debit card through mastercard and it comes in very handy, I've never had any type of problem with them in the past. Just watch for the return E address if you get any mail from them! I'm always here to give you a hand if you need anything! T----

Hi td, I'm actually totally on the ball with finance matters which is why I'm not too keen on putting too much info on line re bank details. I just found the whole process with paypal seemingly never ending, with all the things it constantly requested before one could get any further. The two small amounts needing to be veirified into the bank account drove me insane as it happended on the month the bank statement didn't arrive and who in their right mind wants to ring an Indian call centre via the UK with Greek telephone charges.
I also received a dodgy email a few weeks back from supposedly paypal and reported it to them but they wanted it sent on and I'd managed to delete it. AHHHH.
If I get anything else a bit odd though td I'll give you a call.

I've never received an email like this. I think the best thing for everyone to do is to check paypal's website for security guidelines. You could find there almost everything you need to know about protecting your paypal account. Thanks for informing us about this tdemex and I hope lots of people would now be able to avoid phishing of any kind.

Glad I was able to alert you to this! It never happened to me either until yesterday, and I felt pretty confident I was safe because I do follow all the normal precautions for this! But somehow they got the info I was a paypal user! But I'm more than glad I was able to recognize this for what it was! I feel very bad for those who get caught in this web and loose all their cash! tdemex

I use my account with them a lot because I have a paypal mastercard (it's a debit card) it comes in handy for me! So I'm used to getting mail from them. This one looked just like a normal one, but they were asking for my log in info! that set off my alarm in my head! So I opened my account in another tab and nothing was wrong as the mail said! I checked the senders address and it was bogus! Scared me and I just deleted it! Hope this doesn't become a normal thing! T-----

See, paypal is an encrypted/secured site. Ok let me make it simple, you will see that connection to paypal is "https://". Https indicales that the website has SSL cerficate (secure sockets layer). Also, you can see a padlock besides the website name which indicates that the site is a real thing.

hi tdemex I had one the other day that shook me until I realized it was a phisher, it proclaimed to be from the IRS but it was phoney as the day is long, it told me I owed some back tax money which in itself clued me in as I have not worked in three years and only worked parttime when I did and I did not owe any tax as I had not made enough to have tax taken out. I forwarded it toabuseatwell.com. I also got that paypal with the same wording and knew at once it was some more phishing. grrrrrrrrr.m The IRS one asked me to give my social security number and bank number and that also was a clue to a phisher. glad I knew better.

If I got an email from the IRS I'd be very skeptical, I know they don't use email! How do I know that? Because I owe them some back taxes! LOL! They don't use it, but they sure use snail mail! This was the first time I've been phished as far as I know. It kinda freaked me out! I hope it something I won't have to get used to! T---

Wow I have not had anything like this, but I will certainly be more vigiliant in the future. Thanks for the heads up! I have received a number of these types of scams from people pretending to be from banks. Most of the time I don't even have an account with the bank that they are pretending to be from so they are pretty easy to spot. If I do have an account with them you can usually spot them from spelling or layout mistakes. Watch out people!

Ya everyone really has to watch out for things like that. They are all over the internet for even little things like games. It is crazy and dangerous for the phisher. The phisher could actually get into some huge trouble for taking information such as your paypal info.
