OSAS...who follows this?

A while ago, I posted a discussion about OSAS, or once saved always saved. Most of the responses I recieved back are in contradiction to this belief, like myself. My next question is this... Who DOES believe in it? Is it solely a Baptist belief, or are there other denominations that conform to this philosophy as well?

I'm going to go out on a limb here...
I have been a Christian for many years, no religion, just a believer.
I have studied under some of the very best in my state.
This is a revealtion I received some time ago and it was very eye opening for me.
I'm not going to get into a huge bible study here, but think about salvation for a moment.
We (believers) commonly misuse the term "saved", "So & so got saved today at church". "I got saved when I was 20". ETc..
But... salvation is a process.
The end result of salvation is being "saved" from hell and spending enternity w/ Jesus.
However, in the mean time, we haven't been "saved" yet..
We accept Jesus as our Savior, repent, ask for forgiveness and begin a relationship w/ him.
So needless to say, I don't agree w/ OSAS, because we are still achieving our salvation, but not received it just yet.
I know this may be a bit deep, and go against what certain doctorines teach, but think about it....
Salvation is considered a gift. And as with any gift, we can refuse it, or even return it.

Brooke, just to let you know, I think you should have gotten BR.
I was raised as a Pentecostal. I have learned so much more since then. Most of it through home Bible studies, by actually READING the Bible, not just listening to somebody regurgitate what somebody told him to believe. The truth is there.
You couldnt be more correct. Salvation is the end of an ongoing process.

OSAS is mostly a Baptist belief. It stems from John Calvin. Thay usually call themselves Calvinists, and they can be found in several different denominations. But usually they are Baptists.
If you'll notice when you debate this false doctrine (and it very easy to beat), you will always be told one of three statements when you finally beat them:
1)If you loose your salvation, then you were never trully saved to begin with. This is purely a Calvinist response. Understand Calvin came up with this theory to prove predestination.
2)Then what sin, or how many sins must you comit to loose your salvation? This is simply splitting hairs. This question is asked not for knowledge sake, but rather to see how much one can get away with before losing his salvation.
3)'I dont know the condition of anyones soul'. Often times OSAS believer will acknowledge that one SHOULD ask for forgiveness when, once saved, a sin is commited. When asked, 'If one cannot loose ones salvation, then what happens when you DONT ask for forgiveness?' The answer is one of the biggest cop outs I have ever heard.
There is another that is gaining ground. It is 'If I couldn never be GOOD enough to recieve Gods salvation, then I could never be BAD enough to loose it'. Thats pretty, but unfortunately, its NOT Biblical.
It is a false teaching. A VERY dangerous false teaching.
Sorry for the long rant for which you probably already know the most of. But this false teaching is going to send many to hell, and needs to be combated.

Look up T.U.L.I.P. or John Calvin on wikipedia. This explains it all so well. I went through this with my sudy group and asked those who believed this lie how they could believe something that is so antithetical to the bible that its very belief destroys the essence of the bible.
I could type a million words and give a thousand verses that does not support this belief.
Thank you for BR.
And I am trying to study to show myself approved.

I belong to the Canadian Reformed Church and we believe like all Calvaiists, that God choose HIS own from the beginning and those who HE chooses may fall for a while, but they will feel guilty and repent. You have to be able to understand that this does not mean that they will then rejoin the church and be rebaptized or that as some believe, that if you do a horrible thing and sin against God, that you have to go and rejoin the church again. You are always a member. You may fall short, and as some did do horrible sins like adultery, or not go to church (unless you are unable to because of illness, or working at something of necessity or mercy - for instance, you are a nurse and your hours are on Sunday) In the case of those horrible sins you are given warning, and if you do not repent, then after a certain amount of warnings, you are excommunicated and that means that you can no longer participate in the Lord's Supper.
But no one knows who was chosen by God to be in HIS family and who was not. So the one that was chosen by God will be the once saved, always saved as he or she will repent of their wrong doings and come back and readmitted.
But the one who was not chosen by God but joined because of emotion, or feel good, when he sins or is taken over by the world, will not be once saved, always saved.
So in essence, both are true depending on who you are in God's eyes.
