Balloon boy incident exposed as a hoax

Well, it seems that they have determined that the balloon boy incident was a hoax and was staged by the parents as a publicity stunt designed to try and land them some sort of reality show gig. I had a feeling that was the case when I first saw it in the news and heard the explanation of what took place during and after the incident. Too much of what they said just didn't make sense. Did you think the same thing and when did you start to get suspicious? What do you think they ought to do with them now? How harsh should their punishment be and do you think the children are in any kind of danger being with these loony parents? The dad appears to be a full blown nutcase and there is at least one police call on record to their house for domestic violence, so how far should they go to protect these kids?

It is such a weird story. How did they think they would get the kids to stay quiet. They aren't old enough to hide something like that with all the publicity.

Way beyond weird if you ask me. Did you hear the things this nutcase was saying after the incident? That he was making this craft as a commuter vehicle. There was some "million volt" apparatus on board. He claimed to be a scientist. As the sheriff said, he might be nutty but he's certainly not a professor. And you're right, how could somebody with a normal mentality actually think that kids that young would hold to the lie amidst all the scrutiny that would follow an ordeal like this? I loved it when the 6 yr. old came out on national TV and said, you said we did it for a show. Out of the mouths of babes...

I just don't understand how people think that they can get away with this kind of stuff. Draw the attention of the world onto you, have all kinds of safety and law enforcement focus on trying to help you, and think that you are going to get away with a stunt like this. What a shame. How many people were put at risk while people were chasing down this balloon. I guess we should be thankful that this family wasn't crazy enough to actually try and send the boy up in the air.

That's for sure. And I believe these people had to know the consequences of their actions. They had to know that hundreds of thousands of dollars and much human effort would be expended on their behalf and they just don't seem to care. Anything to get what they want I guess. It's disgusting.
