Good day everyone. It's been a week since i decided to sleep in the receiving room because i am no longer comfortable sleeping in my own room. Last night i decided to sleep early than my usually sleeping time(3 hours earlier) to avoid stress and dark circles. what happened was i think it took me 4 hours before i feel tired, sleepy and fell asleep. That's another horrible night for me. The environment is calm, people go to bed early because it was week end, my mom miraculously didn't snore! I thought I'm going to have a sound sleep...how about you? how long does it takes you before you fell asleep or sleepy? was it easy for you to feel asleep?

Hi simonelee! Most of the time, I find it so hard to sleep coz I have this insomnia thing, that is why my eyebags are not getting any better, LOL. However, my insomnia is more of like psychological coz I have lots of things in my head which just come out during night time when it's peaceful and quiet. So what I just do is meditate a little and focus on clearing my head so that I can sleep. In your case though, it's pretty normal to not sleep immediately when you hit the sack hours earlier than your normal sleeping time because of your body clock. That happens to me too :) It actually just takes maybe two or three days before your body gets used to your new sleeping schedule. You can also follow my technique of meditating before sleeping if you still can't fall asleep easily :)

HI, veron...ica?
Don't worry you still look good with those eyebags. Are you a writer? As what I observed most of the writers can't sleep if they can't put those ideas into a piece of paper. Usually your mind is active and the ideas are overflowing when the environment is calm. You are just like my partner.
My sleeping problem started when I was in college and those shifting schedules greatly affect my system. We barely sleep! I hate it! meditate?(thinking)i did but i end up dreaming of something.

Hi simonelee! I'm a writer but I don't really call myself a great one; I'm still kind of an amateur since I just started. You do have a point though...I guess that's one of the reasons on why I couln't sleep. You see, I have this blog of mine that's been keeping most of my time during the day. Since I'm not such a good writer it usually takes me several days to compose a single post, LOL. So I guess my mind's kind of like thinking all the time of what to write to finish a certain post. The silence does make me think better. As a matter of fact, when I work, I don't like background music, except for those purely instrumental ones.

I always have a problem falling asleep! It seems to take me a long time to anyways. Unless I am really really tired. It could take me up to an hour to fall asleep. My mind never wants to stop running when I go to lay down. But, some nights I can fall right to sleep and others I have a hard time sleeping.

Getting online doesn't help me. It will only add stress to me and i end up awake for the entire evening. Just like having a cup of coffee. Right now, I know some of the reasons why i still up late so I'm avoiding it and it help me a lot.

So, what are the things that you usually do if your not sleepy yet? In my case, I'm currently sleeping in the coach so what i usually do is watching DVD's or watching my favourite television programs.

It depends on how tired I am. It can take hours if I am having trouble winding down or a matter of minutes when I am exhausted.
@Canellita (12029)

When my body is tired but my mind is active I look for a way to wind down. I play a game on the computer such as Solitaire or a word game. Sometimes I put on a movie. There are a few that are guaranteed to have me asleep before they end.

I prefer watching television or movie than tiring my eyes playing online games, it only gives me a terrible headache. Watching horror movies too is effective for me.

Can you sleep if you are so tired? Mine is opposite. When my body is so tired i can't sleep right away even if my mind telling me that i need to rest. My body is having trouble when it comes to that. So, my mind and body should be relaxed to have a restful night.

Hi Simonelee..
I sleep very late around 2:30 or 3:30am. i get to bed around 11:30pm or 12:00am. It takes 2 or 2:30 hrs to get me to sleep...I listen to soft music, so that i coud get to sleep early. If my day gets harder physically then i sleep very soon within half an hour..but mostly i take lots of time to get to sleep.

Hi,sonuherenz. We have the same sleeping hour and it's unhealthy. What do you usually do when you're still up? Do you go online to feel sleepy? read books? Watching movies?

Hi Simonelee...
Yes it is unhealthy....but what to do..?
I love music. i always listen to slow and soft music while going to sleep...this helps me a bit. I dont like reading books. and if i watch movie then i'll never sleep because i love movies, i have a huge collection of it, and the process of watching one after another movie will go on...
What you do, to get to sleep...?

sleeping with music is a "no" for me. I only cry if i listen, though crying makes me tired and fall asleep. What i usually do is watch late night shows and if the TV station signed off i just try to relax my self by listening to the sound of our aquarium. Water sounds relaxes me sometimes.

It depends, usally I go to bed before 1am, and wake up 7:30am. I like to work at night, so I always sleep lately.
I usally would fall asleep with 20min if I have the music around, it's important for me, otherwise it will take a long time to fall sleep.
Remember that was my college, I get the depression said my doctor, I can't sleep almost evernight, it's so painful, But now I fell much better. So I think a good sleep states is a very very happy thing in our life.

Depression? gee! i hate that! I was depressed few months ago and I almost ask for professional help but i don't want to go that so far. So, what i did was to help my self to recover from that state. Yes, you are so so right! having a good night sleep makes us happy.

It started when i was diagnosed with hyper accusi(ear sensitivity to sound) I wasn't able to accept it and my life become miserable. It gives me hard time to adjust and accept the fact that my hearing was affected. I easily get irritated when i hear sound and later lead to isolation. I isolated my self every time we have gathering and feel insecure that I can't mingle and join them chatting because i can't stand the noise. I cried everyday until they asked me if i want a counseling or a psychiatrist but I decided to have vacation.
It was really hard though but i have to help my self. And every time i sense that depression is staring to occur i just close my eyes and ask HIM to help me and its gone. I just turn to HIM because no one could ever understand me but only HIM, the Lord above.
Thanks for the concern and thank you for sharing with me your story.

Hi simonelee!
It depends. There are times when I sleep the moment my back touches the bed. Yeah, not much effort. There are also times when it would take me just few minutes. There are times when I probably have finished 3 or 4 shows on TV before I doze off.

Good day to you too simonelee!
Me, I am working in a night shift and I usually get time to sleep in day time but since my shift timing is like 13 hours in a day, so it hardly takes 15-20 minutes for me to fell asleep. If I am asleep then it is difficult for anyone to wake me up!

Why are you in a night shift? are you a customer service representative? So, how do they wake you up? pulling you down to bed? Sleeping in the morning doesn't replace night sleep, that's what our professor told us. As if we have a choice right? But, now i do have all the time to sleep. Well, sleeping right away is not easy once your mind is active.

Hi, there!
I hate that when you want to relax, go to bed early but your mind is still working. As if you are really thinking. Tsk! It's like a generator operating 24 hours. Forcing your self to sleep will only lead to a severe head ache. Gosh1 I'm still having trouble when it comes to sleep. Good thing you can sleep right away.(grin) you have a husby to cuddle that's why you always have a good night rest.

It use to be very easy for me to fall asleep. I would fall asleep within minutes. Now adays I find it quite difficult to sleep because I tend to have alot of things on my mind and I can't shut it off. Two weeks ago I went to bed about 2 in the morning but was still up at 7:30am. It was ridiulous. I ended up falling asleep before 8am and didn't get up till almost 1pm.

Considering the lack of sleep I really don't lose my temper at all. For the better part of the day I'm with my 3 year old daughter and she puts a smile on my face all the time. I believe if I was working outside the house I would be getting a good night sleep every night. Since being home for over a year my sleep habits have changed for the worse.

when i have a nap at noon, now i can fall asleep as soon as i lie on the bed.
but in the evening, i have a habit to think sth before sleeping. so it takes me some time. not sure how much it takes, it depends on my situation in the daytime. if tired, then shorter. if free, then maybe longer. but if too long, then i'll have a headache, and then hard to fall asleep that night.

I don't if it is advantage or disadvantage for being tired everyday. So, what makes you tired everyday, what's your job if you don't mind? Seriously i miss those moment when i was able to go to bed as early as 8 and wake up at 7am. Now, i seep early dawn and wake up after lunch.

Wow you got 9 pages of responses for this discussion. That is amazing! I have never gotten that many responses on any of my discussions and I've been on mylot for at least 2 years. I have a hard time falling asleep a lot of the times. If I have something on my mind then it makes it very hard for me to fall asleep as I just lay there thinking. Then once I fall asleep if I am woken up in the middle of my sleep its sooo hard to get back to sleep. Then of course I wake up tired and grouchy in the morning.

I didn't expect for this. I was also surprised it catches mylot users attention. It's better not to expect and be surprised of the result. It's more exciting. Have you ever experience you want to sleep but your mind is still working or active, you want to empty your mind but can't? Your mind is loaded with stuff that you don't actually think?

I usually sleep late at night. In most cases, I sleep the earliest at 11 in the evening but usually I sleep at around 12 midnight. In such case, I can sleep easily. If I sleep lie down a little bit earlier, It is quite difficult for me to sleep. That is why, I wait until I am sleep already. I also do not take any nap in the afternoon. If I do, I really have difficulty sleeping at night.

Taking nap in the afternoon is a big NO NO for me. But, sometimes i can't avoid it especially when I'm preoccupied for the entire morning. So, in the evening i drink a glass of milk, then watch television until i feel tired and want to go to bed. Now, I can say that my sleeping pattern improves a lot because i was able to go to bed much early than before.

That's what I'm trying to do lately because if I don't get to bed early the next day I wake up I'll have this allergy thing all over my face. I hate it! Sometimes it's hard to avoid staying up late....

Hi simonelee
Well, I think it depends on my tired-level. If I feel tired and have done sooo many task before, go home late at night, etc, it only takes me seconds to arrived in my dreamland,,hehehe But if I don't really tired or have taken a nap for 3 hours or more, I will find difficulties in sleep, same with you, it takes me around 4 until 5 hours to feel sleepy. If that's the case, I think it is a waste of time if you insist yourself to sleep. I prefer online and read newspaper or do other task, typing something, do activities that makes you tired! hmm,, a glass of milk can really help. Have you ever tried it? Do some activities and drink a glass of milk when you can't sleep?

Hi there. I did some activities that will help me to feel sleepy and I'm happy that my sleeping pattern now is improving. Before I used to be in bed at around (pm when my grandma is still here but now my pattern changed. A bit late but it's better than before. I can now sleep at around 1pm. Better, right? I already identified some of the causes why i still up. Now, I'm avoiding foods that hyperactive me. It helps a lot.

may sleeping time is 12 midnight to 7am.
I don't have problem sleeping.
Maybe you're just stress. Stress is a big factor why many people can't sleep.
May advice is go to sleep regularly. Sooner or later your body will react. And even if you don't want to sleep you will feel sleepy.
Second remove things that make you stress on your own home. For example I love plants. One time I bring plan to my room. And when its time for me to sleep I can't sleep. What I do is that I put that plant outside my room..Then after five minutes I'm in a dream land..lolz
Also if you're stress try not to think about it..problems are meant to be solve, but if you can't solve it then don't think about it..Solution will come if its come..
Pray..If you can't sleep pray.. Its help you to relax.
And also try to think happy thoughts and memories.
Don't...take sleeping pills..its a big no no no..its a temporary solution but later it can be an addictive substance ..so don't
happy sleeping
