Hi friends
I download movies from the internet. Most of the movies are in .mkv format. I want to play those movies in my dvd player and my player doesnot support that format. So I want to know what kind of formats are supported by a dvd player? Don't ask about my dvd player name because it is not a branded one. Please tell me the formats that every dvd player can play

The best option is to convert the videos in a different format like Mpeg or Avi.If you do not have the codec installed in your PC for .Mkv format, you can download them from net. You may use total video converter to convert them to .mpeg or other formats with wide variety of compression options. Once you convert your video to .Mpeg format, it can be played both in computers and DVD players. Alternatively the files can be used to create a generic DVD by any DVD burning softwares like Nero. Almost all DVD burning softwares have the wizards to write videos playable in DVD player.

Hi madugulagopi
Hmm i am not so sure but i have seen divx and i guess mpeg, if you use xilisoft converter it would very convenient for you to convert your video files ... i have seen some cd players play .dat video format, i guess that is vcd format, the plainest video format that any vcd player can play and if a vcd player can play then definitely the dvd will, about the .dat format i have said, it is as far as i can remember, somebody please correct me if i am wrong.
all the best!
