Why did the british judge approve of pay-outs to drug addicts in prison?

Recently some junkies in prison stepped up and demanded compensation for being made go cold turkey as they were not allowed to take their drugs. Now I read in the news that the judge has now ruled that each junkie will receive about £3,800 for suffering from withdrawals. Isn't it disgraceful? So now, if I'm a drug addict, commit a crime, sent to prison and I'm not allowed to take my drugs I can now claim that sort of money in compensation? Ridiculous!
