they say there are some people who are extremely rich but are not happy. they also say that there are poor men who live their lives one day at a time and are happy with their lives. I guess happiness means different things to different people. some people choose to be happy despite their circumstances if life. however, i cannot bring myself to believe that this is true. i don't believe that you can actually choose to be happy. i have tried psyching out myself, telling myself that I am happy. but no matter what I do, i am still plagued by my problems in life and i feel so helpless not being able to do something about it.
i would like to know your thoughts on the matter.
thanks and happy mylotting!

As you had pointed out happiness means different things to different people. Another thing is happiness is relative- one man's pleasure may be another's woe. A third thing is, the mental make up of some people allow them to be happy whatever the circumstances- they are not affected by the surroundings around them and are happy go lucky in nature. It takes a lot to depress such people. So there is no straightforward benchmark to measure happiness. You have to find yours given your set of attributes and circumstances. Good luck!

thanks abhikmjmdr. the innate nature of some people not to dwell on their problems but rather just take life as it comes does certainly make them more happier in life than those who do dwell on their problems.

Happiness is a part state of mind and part physiologically -conditioned. If you have bad experience and you are being optimistic then don't look back on your past and move on. Look back on your happy life with grateful gratitude. It is a state of mind because feel contented, be love, satisfied and pleasurable to everything you have in your present life.

Hi there, I just want to share my opinion about happiness. For me, happiness is just the matter of how we look at it, as well as how we define it. =) For me, happiness is something that money can't buy, so I don't like when happiness is related to rich or poor. Being very rich doesn't make us the happiest person in the world, and the other way around, being the happiest person doesn't mean that we are the richest one. =)

yes.. happiness is just a state of mind. . To make ourselves happy is simply to accept the things that we have, the success that we have achieved, the wealth that we have shared, the privilege that we have enjoyed.... simply being contented of what you are and what you have and depending wholly 100% your future on GOD, THEN,, you'll find happiness and joy in your heart.

I think the happiness is about whole thing in your life, inside and outside from you and your life around you. But the one thing is totally true is you can not buy the happiness with money at all, it's not about physically thigs in this world, for me is more about the soul, the journey in your life and around you. Poor people can be happy, which is very true, people can say someone poor if they don't have big house, luxury car or eat expensive food, etc, all the physicall stuff, but they are happy because they have each other in one family, and they just always grateful with whatever they got to eat everyday and thanking God with the health they got and no debt..so I think it's about how grateful you feel about everything that happen in your life and feel bless to what you have in your life, such as family, friends, what you've been contributing to other people etc. Sometimes, just to help other people will be enough to make someone happy. If you mentally not feeling grateful about your life and around you, feel like never good enough, so eventhough you are millionaire you will never feel happy.

Your topic greatly intrigues me.
Well, i have to agree that yes... Happiness is just a state of mind. Remember the time when you were a kid and you're just so happy to get a small toy? those toys from Mcdonalds kiddie meals and stuff but now you want cars women luxury and money? It's just a state of mind. It just so happens that the more simple minded you are.. the more happy you are in life. Thus, people should rather just live life to the fullest 'stead of trying to understand why it's like that and why it's not like that because that just screws the process.

I agree what you said ,the money is not all ,maybe you could buy soemthing with money ,but you can not buy the happiness with money .the rich not must be happy ,but the poor is not unhappy .so in my eyes ,the happiness is the most important ,and teh money is less than the happiness

Hi...happiness means different for different people,it depends on each individuals attitude towards life and their thoughts.Life is how we accept, few things happen as we wish and few are not in our hands.Feeling elated when things happen in ones favour and vice versa is human tendency.I think being optimistic in all situations and taking things positively will help one to stay happy. An Optimist can find good and joy in everything and a pessimist can find negatives and complain about problems even in the most happiest moments.Life is how we take it.

Yes, happiness is a state of mind, I couldn't agree more. It involves logic, heart, and lust; all must agree to a state of mind before one can reach happiness.
But this could backfire. One who thinks he is happy could be well fooled by his own thought and could fall down hard once someone else point out his pretensions. So be careful with what you think is happiness.
