What One Characteristic would you like to change about yourself?

We are all human and I'm sure that all of us realize that we are not perfect. That led me to start thinking about what one personality characteristic would I like to change about myself and I thought others would like to share theirs too. As for me, if there was one thing that I could change about my self it would be the fact that I have an addictive personality. Thankfully, it hasn't manifested itself in anything that is illegal, but I'd love to be able to wake up one day and not feel like I need to smoke a cigarette to start my day. Please share.

I feel as though I worry waaaaay too much, and would like to change that characteristic about myself. I'm working on it, making progress, but still have a ways to go! Karen

Stress, or worrying is something that concerns me. My father passed away at a young age in large part to stress and worrying. He had a massive heart attack at 43 years old. Therefore, that is definitely something in my life that I try to avoid.

Oh yes, stress is definitely a "killer." How painful to have lost your father when he was so young! Yet how wise of you to avoid what ailed him...the stress and worry let run amok! Karen

i would love not to procrastinate. i have the tendency to put things off until such time that i don't do it at all... i think of myself as ambitious yet i haven't achieved all of my goals... PROCRASTINATION... like i said. :)

I'm a procrastinator as well. It is something that I keep trying to change but then it seems like there is always something more important that I need to do.

I have a tendency to have to have the last word and I try to work on that from time to time. I know where it comes from...it comes from my birth order. I'm the oldest of four and I was responsible for my younger siblings for about 5 years after school and during the summer because both of my parents worked full time. Because I was in charge, I had the last word when it came to any conflicts. I do realize that sometimes it's best to just shut up and let a discussion end but sometimes that's pretty hard to do!

Isn't it funny how birth order really does have an effect on the way that our personality turns out. I too am an oldest child and thus was expected to be the one to help solve the conflicts between my little brother and sister. Now, when it comes to my kids I am better able to do it between them but as a teenager it was a burden.

I need to stop volunteering for stuff. I like to be helpful, and I'm a sucker for a hard luck story, and sometimes I take on more than I really should. However, it's part of me and the person I am, so maybe I wouldn't like myself so much if I was a bit more selfish.

I am a sucker for volunteering to help other people. Since I was much younger I've always been one that does that. It started with volunteering for our church and more recently it has been volunteering for my oldest daughter's school PTA. It is a benefit and a burden at times but I couldn't imagine myself being any different in this way. I even wonder if I would be happy were I not to have such a giving personality.

I would like to learn how to be more sociable. I do fine with close friends and some relatives but for the most part, I prefer to stay either by myself or just with my husband. I usually do not feel comfortable around other people for some reason or another. I think some of it has to do with my low self esteem so maybe that's what I need to work on.

Self esteem is something so difficult to work on. I know because I too have dealt with low self esteem during my life. When I was in high school I was overweight and ridiculed because of it and it made my personality suffer except with my closest friends. As an adult I am still overweight, but I am much more comfortable with the person that I am so I am a lot more sociable than I was then.

I want to eliminate my urge to hate people who have done something bad against me or against my family.

If you figure out a way to do this, could you please share it with me. We've been wronged in so many ways and that is my natural response to those people that do us wrong. I was brought up to be a forgiving person, but it is definitely true that in so many situations I am not able to forgive people for hurting us in some way.
