This photo is a shot of an area in my basement. It's all cement walls and floors except for one partially done wall which is being torn down. The gift my daughter and her hubsand are giving us for Christmass this year is that they are going to finish this room. Basically for my wife so she has an exercise area where no-one sees her working out. Also as a spare room for guests etc. We are both excited at this gift. Sunday night they put up the framework for 3 walls so far. I will post updates in the future then a final shot of the finished room. What is the best gift you ever recieved from a family member?

Hi Grandpa Bob
Wow this must be the week for great things for us. I just found out that the trailer that we was trying to rent we have been choosen as the renters. I know how you feel about gifts from your kids. Im so happy for you. My son here about three christmas ago had gotten me a Grandfather Clock. I had been wanting one for years. It was a big surprise when he came in with it. I cried and laughed and hugged and then cried some more. I was totally surprised. It is a wonderful feelling. You continue to have a great week and as always keep smiling my friend.

Grats to you as well.
I have always wanted an old fashioned Grandfather Clock.
Not the newer ones, but one from the 50's or so.

Well isn't that a sweet deal, now that's a gift you could never put a price on!!! Good for you guys I think that's fabulous truly.
As for myself the best gift I have ever recieved was from my daughter. As most here know I only have one daughter and she and her hubby have two kids, boy now 8 and girl now 6. My daughter took all her baby clothes and donated to goodwill except for certain items which she hired a hotterite lady to make a most beautiful quilt for my bed from patches from my grandchildrens clothing. When the quilt was finished and ready to give to me my daughter asked the kids to get up on her bed then she covered them up with the quilt and placed a sign above the bed that read:
These were the clothes that kept my children warm, may they also keep you warm Grandma.
I will never forget the tears of joy I had and I love the quilt far more than money could buy Anything.

Wow that sounds like a great Christmas gift, I am glad that your wife is going to be able to exercise without watching eyes. I always exercise when my family is out of the house because I too get embarrassed if someone is watching. I would have to say that the nicest gift a family member has done or gotten us was a gift card that allowed us to take a weekend cabin vacation for the family....all we had to worry about was spending money. It was a nice vacation

That's very generous of your daughter and hubby. Not only is it useful to you now, in the long run it increases the value of your home. Enjoy.

oh Grandpa bob that is an easy one for me.as you know I am stuck here in this retirement center because we were evicted after my son lost his job and we ran out of money so my son had me put her so I had a place to live, and he is in gov.sponsored apt. so he and his fellow roommates can have an address and look for work. so when he got my computer and monitor out of storage and when he helped me get on the internet, it was the best gift he could give me. I was once more able to mylot to all mylot friends and my did that just make me a very happy camper. I think that
is a fantastic gift from your daughter and son in law, good going and happy posting back at you. hatley here.

Hey Grandpa Bob! I think that is the most wonderful idea for
a Christmas gift! That is such a perfect gift! Your wife can
have an exercise area and you can have a guest room so the
grandkids can stay over! I can't wait to see it all finished!
That really was a great idea and having them do all the work
is even better! That really will be a gift that you will be
able to use all year around! Nice going whoever thought of it!
You really have such a wonderful family! I'm still waiting to
be adopted!

That is a great gift. Your wife will really enjoy the exercise room. Having a spare room would be great to, so when your wife gets mad at you, you have a place to go lol. My husband and I had a great Christmas gift last year from my daughter and her hubby also. We had a free vacation to San Diego in January, Loved it there.
I think My hubby and I will be getting the same gift this year. Yeah, San Diego here we come.

A lovely gift from your loved ones. It is a great feeling if someone gives you such a gift. I never felt any thing special till now as when ever i get a gift from my loved ones i feel it as special and best one. Though in future they may give something very best then also i may feel like that only.

What a wonderful gift! I'm sure your wife will love it, you are very blessed to have such children!
The best gift I ever got was an Int'l Field Studies trip to the Bahamas when I was in high school, way back in 1972. We had no money, but somehow I went. It was one of the best times of my life. I found out about ten years ago that it was my brother who paid for it and he swore my mom to secrecy. So I finally was able to thank him for it!
I hope you and your wife both enjoy the basement, you deserve it!

What an excellent surprise, GB! It was a great idea of your daughter and her husband - I'm sure you'll all get a lot of fun fitting out the new room and enjoying it afterwards. I can't think of the best gift I've ever received, as my family always think of lovely surprises - but my husband once filled a huge box with screwed up Christmas wrapping - and in between all the bits were book vouchers for my favourite bookshop - about $500 worth of them! It was hilarious trying to find them all, and our four children were little at the time and enjoyed jumping in and out of the box and all the scrunched up paper!
