I feel very tightened in the brain to say a blunt No for a thing which I don't want to commit . I try to make out why it is so difficult to say a No . Is it in the nerves to stop us from being negative in our response?

Well, for me it often depends on the circumstances and why I feel I really need to say NO. If it is something that I feel strongly against due to personal or religious beliefs I find no problem saying NO to something, but if it is something I am not really sure how others will react if I say NO then it makes it hard sometimes as I am not sure how I want others to think of me as well.

Try this phrase....."I'll think about it." You haven't committed to doing anything other than thinking about it and it gives you some time and space. Maybe you'll decide it's something you really do want to do after all but you're immediate silent reaction was no because you felt pushed. Or you'll decide that you really don't want to do it and you have time to think of a polite way of saying no without the pressure of giving an immediate answer.

I think too many things are involved to figure out a specific reason as to why it is hard for some people to say no. Peer pressure is a problem everyone has to face at some point and some people fall prey to it on a daily basis. Everyone at some level wants to appease their peers whether it be friends, family, coworkers..etc. Because of this, you dont want to say no because you will potentially disappoint that person and then they might like you less. Most of this is probably more on a subconscious level but it still applies. Your upbringing and group of friends probably had a lot to do with it as well. If at a young age you were the leader, then you probably dont have a problem. But, if you were following a leader then you would be more apt to follow the trend.
