Good question. You've named one of the most common "color" surnames in the US, and so are others: White, Black, Green...I've known a lot of people with those last names. Mine is not too common, but not that rare, either. Karen

The three most common ones that I can think of are Smith, Jones and Brown. My parents bought their house from a Smith family and the original owners of the house were the Browns. Just goes to show just how common they are. As far as my own surname, my maiden surname was Lynch which is very common in Ireland, but not so much common in the United States. My married surname is Winburn. My husband says that this one isn't common at all unless it is someone that is related to him. And, I believe that he is right. Everyone that I've ever met with the same last name as I've got know all say they were related to my husband's grandpa.

In Chinese, we have lots of common surname.. the big fives are chen, li, wang, he, jiang... but something different in my family is that, even we are in the same family tree with the same ancestor, our surname in english was written differently. My paternal grand father had a surname of Kwan, and come to my 2nd uncle, they are Weng, and lastly, for my family and my youngest uncle, we carry the wong spelling..

Perez is a quiet common surname at least on this side of the world. There are others but cant really think about it. My surname, Castillo, its not the most common name but it isnt strange either.
