eye shut

My cat has his eye shut. Everytime he is stressed, he gets this. It's some sort of a chronic problem. It never heals. It is always draining, but now it is shut. I am going to go to the vet tomorrow, even though we don't have the money too, as he seems listless. He is eating though. Any comments or thoughts on this?

Oh, poor kitty, I hope it's nothing serious. My mothers cat (one of them) is old and has been blind all his life but gets along quite well. People don't even realize he is blind and when told they don't believe it.... they start waving in front of him and such...lol Unfortunately he has feline leukemia and has been coughing and sneezing alot lately. But he is hanging in there like a trooper.
Good luck at the Vet's hope it's not too costly and kitty is ok. Maybe it's just an irritation or allergy type thing...

Hi mari61960. I went to the vet today. It was a ulceration ucler on the cornea. He has to go back Monday. I have eye drops for him, he is very uncomfortable. He is under the bed, and I cannot get him out to give him the med. It was $85. for the visit, tests and rx. A bit more than we could handle now, but, he is one of the family. God bless you.

Oh, poor thing, it probably stings or something. I would hide too if I could...lol I sure hope he gets better quick. Hope the bill isn't too hard on you both.

Definitely worth getting checked out at the vet, especially if it's an ongoing problem. I'd be worried that kitty is battling an upper respitory infection or has an eye issue, such as an ulcer, that is causing the drainage. When one of our persians had a corneal ulcer several years ago, it got some bad and so inflammed at one point that her eye was swollen shut. Hope that it's not anything major!

Thank you care4pet. I went to the vet today. He has a corneal ulcer. He is on an ointment, and has to go back to the vet Monday to be rechecked. He is under the bed,and I cannot get to him to give him more of the eye drops now.
