A pregnant 17 year old girl who has mild learning disabilities has been told that her child could be taken into care when it is born.
She has already been prevented form getting married by social workers as they say that she does not have the capacity to consent to a wedding.
She is due to have her baby in January
The council say so far that no decision has been made on the babys future and that she would be given every support.
Mencap's chief executive Mark Goldring said there is about 250,000 parents with a learning disability in the UK and argued all of them should have the same opportunities as other parents.

Personally I think that these parents should be allowed to bring up the baby with the right support they could be good parents.
What do you think?

There is alot of support a young mother can get if she has or has not got any learning disabilities. There are i am sure alot of kind people out there that would love to help her rather than have her baby taken away.I think that some people like her have done a real good job bringing up their children and lets face it there are parents out there that have no problems and they are rubbish parents.I hope she gets to keep baby.

I agree there is some really bad parents out there. I also hope that she gets to keep the baby as she has the support of her family and partner.

Hey littleone! I happen to agree that there is no reason why
this girl shouldn't be allowed to bring up her baby. There are
plenty of people with learning disabilities who bring up
children with no problems at all. In fact, they actually turn
out to be better at parenting then some of the abusive and
miserable parents out there who should have never been parents
in the first place! They are loving and caring and should be
given a chance to raise their child! I hope she is allowed to
keep her baby! I'm sure she will be an excellent and loving
mother!

The 17 year old should be able to have her baby and get married if she wants to. She is disabled and she has feelings. I think that she is scared that the council will take her baby away. It is not right of them to make the pregnant lady nervous. Mencap charity are right that disabled parents should have the same opportunities. I think the best option is to give the lady and her baby any extra support that they will need. A imagine she and her partner will be good parents. Good luck to the pregnant lady.
