Do you tend to forget something while leaving from home?

Dear friends,
Imagine that you are ready to go for the work or somewhere else and just step out from the home then you realize that you forgot something. For e.g. key of your vehicle. Then you have to call somebody or you should return inside the home and take the same (wasting of time).
My neighborhood man is always calling his mother and asks her to bring down his handkerchief. When he reaches the down stairs then he remember that he forgot this. Mostly I am hearing his voice because his mother is in upstairs so he used to call loudly.
My hubby too have the habit of forgetting his bike’s key and my younger son is there to assist him (and happy to serve his father).
If you ask me the question, I don’t give a chance to get back to the home for getting the forgettable thing. I am locking the house so before leaving I stand for a minute and check whether I forget anything. In other words, before locking the house I will make sure that I didn’t forget anything.
What about you? Do you forget something and call somebody to help or you open the door again and get in the home (in case nobody at home).
Please share your habits?

I'm clumsy, so this happens to me most of the time. I forgot my keys twice or more and I couldn't get back into my parents' house, and in one of them no one was home. So I was locked out.
I also dropped my two cell phones on the sidewalk once back when Circuit City was dying because my cell phone holder strap broke, and I had to make an emergency trip back home to find them. That was the first of the times this happened.
Another was when I forgot one of my hats because I always wear a hat to absorb the sweat from my head and give me shade.
Like I said, i'm clumsy. A bit forgetful, and clumsy.

Hi DuoMaxwell,
Don’t worry much on your forgetful habit, all people are having the same and as a human being we all tend to forget something. We can’t avoid this habit but can reduce this by stopping for sometime before leaving from home. I felt you are more absent minded than forgetting things. This habit seen to those who are more intelligent, this is my experience.
Thank you very much for sharing and joining.
Have a nice time.

Hi Sree!
It sometimes happens with me too that I forget to keep my wallet with me and I ask my colleagues to help, when I reach office. I sometimes forget to keep the handkerchief with me, when I get down and start my bike and put on my helmet, then only I realize that I've forgotten my handkerchief. However, most of the time I try to remain careful and alert and check all my essential belongings, before I leave my home. One fine day, my better half forgot to pack my lunch and when I opened my lunch box in the afternoon, it was empty. I was shell shocked and had to contend with Canteen food. Forgetting things is part of our life.

Yes, she felt pretty bad when she came to know about her lapse in the evening. I did not tell her during day time that I had to pacify myself with canteen lunch.

Hi deepak,
I just imagined the scenario when you open your lunch box it was empty. Later she must be guilty on the same, I am sure. I think men are tending to forget more, because they know that the wife will be there to assist.
Thanks for sharing the interesting incident.
Have a great weekend.

This happens to me on a daily basis. My grandmother used to say that if I go out then need not close the door since I would be soon back to take something which I had forgotten. In the morning I am in a hurry so that I don't have the patience to think and reflect on the necessary belongings to be taken to the office. But, as you know, impatience always sucks,it wastes a lot of valuable time. But alas! what to do,today also I forgot something important.I rushed to the court for the argument day in an important case.Only when I reached the court hall I realized that the argument notes I had prepared the last night was at home.Luckily I got my clerk on phone and he was only half way from my home and he went and brought the notes. But I know not always luck will come to the aid.

Hi Cosmo,
Your grandma is cleverer. I think you can seek her advice for not forgetting the important things. I know the difficulties of forgetting important things. Be prepare in the night and keep all the things together including the car's key so that you won't forget (you need the key at least to start from home).
Happy and Prosperous New Year 2010.

I have the tendency also forgetting things. One time, I forgot my wallet when I was going to work. I used to bring separate wallet and purse wherever I go. Since my work place at that time is walking distance from my apartment, I did not notice it until I arrived in the office. My wallet was in my other bag I used the other day. As a result, I have to borrow money from my officemate for my lunch.
There are also times that I forget to take off the key of my apartment in the keyhole. Only to find out the next day that it is still there. Good thing, my neighbors are nice.
Well, i guess my forgetfulness was due to anesthesia.

Oh yes dear, general anesthesia has an effect that may cause forgetfulness. That is why pregnant women who have undergone ceasarian are prone to this kind of furgetful.Well, just be understanding and have patience to your hubby's forgetfulness or perhaps you may do something to help him remember.

Ok dear, I will do my best. Actually I am helping him but if he asks me to remember him about the doctor’s appoint for our small kid (during his office time, so that he can leave early) I may feel definitely agree because I felt it as an irresponsibility.
Fortunately I have not gone through any anesthesia yet, my both deliveries were normal.
Thank you very much for coming again.

Hi maean,
It means anesthesia causes to forget something.. oh no, then I feel very about my hubby he had gone through the same many times because of some injuries. Sometimes I felt angry on him; by thinking how can he forget things so easily, now only I realized the reason. Thanks for sharing dear.
Hope you are doing well now.
Have a nice day.

hello Sreekala,
yes, and it happened a couple of times or so. i forgot to lock the side door before going somewhere during my restday. and when i came back, i found out that i did not lock or even close the door before leaving. good thing i locked the gate but even then some bad guys can go over the fence and steal something while i'm away. so lucky, that nothing is missing. and then after a month or so, i did it again. i promised to myself that i need to double check the door before leaving and need not wait till such time that someone will discover about it. so far, so good. and hopefully will never happen again.
other thing that i forgot was our wedding ring. i called up my wife at once upon noticing it and told her that i removed it in when i'm taking a bath and forgot to put it back. and just recently, i went downtown to submit to the bank an important document for a friend who happen to be in abroad and ask a favor from me but when i was already in my way i noticed that i was not holding anything where infact i just printed it and put on top of the table. and because of this, i need to go to an internet cafe so i can have it print than going home again.

Hi robert,
Forgetting to lock the door is really a matter of serious concern. The bad people may thought by seeing the open door, somebody should be at home, anyway luckily nothing badly happened and you promised yourself not to repeat the same. Wedding ring is safe if you left the same at home. By reading your experience I remember about my brother's wedding. On wedding day we were on the way to the girl's house which was the venue of the wedding and we travelled almost half of the way (there is long distance in between) then my younger sister noticed the wedding-ring (there was a ring exchange on engagement) was not on my brother’s hand. It will be really an embarrassing thing if it came to know about the girl's family at the time of wedding. Finally we arranged some person to go back home to collect the wedding ring.
Sometimes if we forget something, it will lead to great problems.
Thanks for sharing robert, hope you are doing well. You were not in mylot regularly, I think.
Have a nice day.

Fortunately we talked on the road wether about the home and I asked wether he locked the house.. then he told me that he thought I will do that.. then again we went back and locked the door and left for work.. Isnt it was funny??

Don’t remind me Kala…the last time was the door key. We have this self-locking system where we just pull it from outside and the door gets locked…no need of hanging any extra lock on it. Now as I said, I just walked out (God knows what I was thinking) and after I had shut the door and walking down the stairs that I remembered that the keys were left at the table…Oops! Finally I had to call my hubby, wait on the road for about one hour till he came and rescued me
Waiting for a minute is a good habit Kala….I too practice it now but only I after I learnt my lesson the hard way!

Hi Sudipta,
I can understand the locking system, which is similar to my home (father's place) in our native. It will be a very difficult situation and thank God your hubby had the spare key.
Please wait for moment before closing the door and it can save your time much and can avoid unnecessary tensions too. I am following the same everyday.
Thanks for sharing Sudipta.
Hope the Deepawali went well and you enjoyed the festival.

I am usually pretty good at remembering everything but I have the occasional off day. Not long ago my daughter and I set off to meet my mother and we were already late. A little while down the road I asked my daughter to check whether my mobile was in my bag and she said it wasn’t so I had to turn around and go back home much to her annoyance! All the way back she is complaining to me about how forgetful I am...Bla...Bla...Bla...
I get back to the house and I go inside while little Miss Complaining waits in the car. I look around the kitchen, dining room, lounge, my bedroom...No sign of the phone so I ring the number from the landline and I don’t hear anything except my daughter in the car yelling, “Mum! Your phone is ringing!”
Yep, it was in my bag the whole time...Little Miss Complaining turned into Little Miss Quiet all the way to my mother’s house!

Hello sreekala, yes I do. That is really annoying and frustrating especially when you remember the forgotten something at the middle of your destination. I found an idea how to overcome it from that time on. Before I leave I should put together in one place all the things I would bring so that I could be sure nothing would be left behind...thanks

Hi mobhomeir,
It is a good practice, keep all the things together so that we can avoid the frustrations by forgetting some important things. If there is enough time to recheck the things then it won't happen but usually all of us are busy and leaving in a hurry. Thank you very much.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Ifa,
If we are leaving in a hurry then it is natural to forget something and most probably it will be an important thing. All are in a hurry in the morning especially the working people. If we can get ready little early then it may help to avoid forgetting things.
Thanks for sharing ifa, have a great day.

Hi sree
Yes. i will defenitely forget something whenever I leave from home. Inside me my consious says that some thing I have forgotten, but i don't remember what is that. Later on when i needed that thing i will come to know what I forgotten. Even when I go to my relatives house and stay for a couple of days, it is my habit of forgetting, my tooth paste, brush, soap and towel etc.

Hi vathsala,
Our inner mind is helping us to recollect the things but sometimes we can't recollect, only we know that we forget something but the time of need we can realize that this is the thing I forgot, but that time it may be too late. It is the nature of us (human beings).
Thank you very much for the participation.
Have a great weekend.

I tend to forget things at home and waste valuable time going back to get what I had forgotten. I usually forget my mobile phone, especially when I'm charging it. One time, I also forgot my access card. I had to go back home because going to work would be useless without it. I hate it when it's one of those days, when I forget something important and have to rush and go home for it.

Hi arystine,
Yes, it is really a waste of time when forget something and go back to collect those things. It is very difficult when we forget important things and there is no other way but to go back. I think if we can organize our day in advance then it (forgetting things) may be avoided. Keep the important things together in one particular table in the night itself. You please don't worry about this habit, almost 99 percent people have the same habit. Better to recheck the things before leaving home.
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.
Happy and Prosperous New Year 2010.

I always used to forget things while leaving home..worse is that i remember it far away ...but what i did is i slowed down all of my actions just some time before leaving the home..that helped me a lot...we tend to forget things because we put ourselves in un necessary hurry ..if we do things in their time ...all will be good no hurry no panic..

Exactly, all people are busy while leaving home and they are worrying for getting late and it leads to forgetting some important things. To avoid this, get ready little bit early and leave home in a relaxed mood.

Well, from time to time I have been known to forget something. When we used to live in between where my husband worked and I worked, sometimes I would call my husband to bring something to me that I had left at home, especially if it was something of importance. But now since we live about 45 mins. drive from where I work, I have to double check each morning before I go to work, etc. and make sure that I have everything as well. Since I am Insulin Diabetic this is very important to remember these types of things for sure.

Hi Krause,
If the office is away from home then it is difficult to go back and get the things we forget. It is good to cross check the thing before leaving the home especially the very importance things. It is a common nature of human beings to forget something while going to somewhere. Most of the people are in a hurry in the morning time this may make the situation worst.
Thank you very much for the participation.

Sometimes, that will happen if I am not prepare for today. My preparation happen the night before, and the preparation means that day is a very very important day. I don't want to have a last moment problem so I list down all I need and prepare it before the day ends, before I sleep. I forget something when i do not plan everything. What are the things that I can forget, either it is my wallet, my cellphone , organizers to name a few. These are the things that are very important to me.

Hi grecy,
I am happy to learn that you are well organizing your day all the time. It is good to be listing all the necessary things because ‘forgetting something’ is always happening with us and it is better to be planned all the time. Wallet and cell phone are always very important especially if you are getting important calls. Try to keep all the things together so that you won't miss those in future.
Thanks for the participation.
Have a great weekend.

Hello Sreekala,
I was not a forgetful person during my younger time. But now, after having my own family, I tend to forget sometimes. Whenever I travel back to my hometown, I always forget to bring something and when I reach my hometown and need to look for the stuff, then only I realize that I forget about it. I also have this habit where whenever I lock my car and walk away from the parking lot, I tend to stop and go back to my car - I can't remember whether I already locked the car or not!

Hi gr8life,
Earlier the habit of forgetting was a problem with elders but now it is common among people with all ages. The younger generation is using advanced technologies and giving less work to their brain. For e.g. earlier we used to remember some phone numbers in heart and now the wide use of mobile caused to reduce that habit. We can keep alive the memory power by utilizing the same mostly.
After reading all the posts I gathered one information, all people are tend to forget something but some are well organized or planned with their days and avoiding this habit.
So you too don’t worry about your forgetful habit, which is common among us and prepare everything in advance for the next day, that method can only help us.
Have a great weekend with your lovely son.

A lot of people have this problem. Me, too. Morning is always short, so I usually packed up my bag before going to bed. I have a pad of to do list, and check weather forecast before hand, so as to save the trouble of going back to pick up the documents, umbrella, etc.

Hi zhuhuifen,
It is happening because of our hurry. If there is enough time and we are leaving the home with a peaceful mind (not in a hurry) then this won’t happen. It is common in the morning people want to be in office in time and making things fast which leads to forgetting something.
I appreciate your attitude by organizing everything in advance and making a list will help you in a great way.
Have a nice day.

I cant count the number of times I have gotten a mile down the raod and had to turn around to go get something I forgot. Many times is was my whole reason for going out, well a good part anyway. Like say I borrowed a movie from one of my friends, and the next day I am going over to visit and bring the movie back. It is one of the reasons I am going, and I put it over by the door, but somehow I still manage to go out the door, get in the car and drive away without noticing that I dont have the movie with me. If I only get a mile or two away before I realize then I will go back, but much further and I decide to just tell them I will get it back to them the next day.

It means you too are a forgetful person. Don’t worry, out of my responses only one person is perfect and all others are having the same habit. So I concluded that it is a common habit and being more alert we can reduce the habit but we can’t give up it.
