What do you do when you have trouble sleeping?

These days, I can't help but sleep at around 12midnight. I can't seem to be able to hit the sack before then. I think this was because I had changed my body clock due to some urgent things that needed to be done several days ago.
Even though I sleep at 12midnight, I could still be able to wake up at around 6:30am or 7:00am the least.
What do you do in order to sleep? Or do you not have any problems at all?

Oh, sorry friend. But it seems I cannot take tea because like coffee it would keep me up. I don't really know what's up with me, my family can drink those things without effect on their sleeping habits, but for me? A cup of coffee or tea could keep me up all night!
Thanks for trying though, have a great mylot experience ahead!

Hi laydee!
I drink milk. I drink hot milk. Sometimes I would change my sleeping position into something that would make me feel comfortable. Eventually, I would feel sleepy. There are times when I would turn on the iPod and listen to relaxing music. It may not always work, but it does work most of the time.

Hmmm.. Hot milk is good, I have tried that.
Yeah, I would also try changing sleeping positions and the music. But these days, I would just play some games on my phone until I could feel my eyes getting heavier.
Thanks for the tips, have a great mylot experience ahead!

I usually listen to music or get online if I can't sleep. I'm bad to just lay there and be lost in my thoughts though, which never helps me get back to sleep. My husband has had a new work schedule for the past few months and he now gets home at 11pm. It's not that late, but we were going to bed by that time and now he gets home and has lots of energy. I can't go to sleep because I'm a very light sleeper so any noise wakes me up. It's hard for me to get used to because I have to get up at 7:30 am and I'm also pregnant, so I'm already getting little sleep as it is. I try to just catch a nap in the afternoon or evening if I can.

I have a hard time getting comfortable which makes it hard to get to sleep. To help me get to sleep I watch television. The problem is that I usually fall asleep during a program I'm really enjoying (I rest my eyes during the commercials), so I think I must miss really interesting things. It seems to me that the best programs come on late at night.

I am also wondering why they'd put the good programs when we're about to sleep, is it about programming? or it's just not good for children?
That's how I feel too when I am not sleepy, then I do something else, then in the middle of something nice like song or movie, I feel sleepy but then I keep myself from sleeping! hhahaha.. ironic.
But these days, I just play on my phone then when I look at the clock, I'd say goodnight then I would instantly fall asleep.
Of course, I need to avoid coffee and tea, else it would be no-sleep the whole night.
Thanks for the response, have a great Mylot experience ahead!

If you can not fall asleep before twelve midnight, how about just listening to what your body is telling you?
Your body wants to stay awake till midnight and fall asleep then.
Here are some ideas in answer to your question:
1. If you are having trouble fallling asleep STOP trying to fall asleep. Pretend that you want to stay awake and do something, anything. Read a book, listen to a radio station, do some exercize, that might make you tired. Have something that is a sleepy food. (I.e for some people, milk or mashed potatos are sleepy foods). Recognize your body's habits and make notes so that next time, you know what to do.
2. Stop timing yourself. Spend a night or two without a clock or watch. Seems that you know exactly when you are going to sleepp and when you will wake up. LISTEN To your body. Put your watches and clocks away and just sleep when you are tired, no matter what time that is. Even if you work or go to school you can try this. Begin this fun task on your weekend or on your vacation. Go to sleep or wake up when you want to do so. See what happens.
3. Seek the help of a professional hynotist to help you get some sleep. If you are interested in this, contact the website of National Guild of Hypnotists online, and investigate and contact one that you think might help you.
4. TRY sleeping less. If you wake up and think you should go back to sleep, try staying awake instead. Your body will tell you when it is time to go to sleep.

I play inane computer games like solitair. You know, the mind-numbing kind that require zero thought processes. I also listen to music and drink herbal tea, like chamomile or green tea. On really bad nights I have a drink, a shot of whiskey or brandy.

Usually i dont have a problem trying to go asleep. Unless Miss Kitty Kat cant deside if she wants under the covers or not. Whichever the case she always wants the nitely ritual of a belly rub. She can really be annoying especially when im going to bed late and getting up early. But then if i ignor her she starts touching my face. And mews. I feel guilty and think if she were not there i would miss her and she is so innocent so i give her the belly rub. So i can go to sleep. Thats the only problem i have going to sleep.

If I have trouble sleeping I will read, watch a movie, listen to music or find something to do around the house until I get tired. It really depends on how late it is and what I have to do the next day.

Our bio clock can alter after some pattern change, it will need some time to adjust back. I still remember sometime back I can't sleep at night due to heavy work stress. What I did was I tried not to think about work after office hours. I watch funny movies till I get tired and go to bed.
Now, I'm back to normal and whenever I can't sleep I surf the Internet and so do readings - Law of Attraction and NLP.
Hope this helps - good luck. :)

I hate it when i have trouble sleeping. Tossing and turning to get to sleep makes me crazy. I have two things that i like to do to help me get to sleep. I turn on the television and let it lull me to sleep. My other choice is reading a book until I feel sleepy. I've heard some people say that drinking a glass of warm milk will also help you fall asleep. That would not be for me. That thought is just not appealing to me, and i don't think it would do anything for my sleep.

I have problems sleeping on most nights. I do deep breathing or meditate. Sometimes I read until I'm sleepy enough to fall asleep. When it gets really bad, I take a sleeping pill, but when I do this, I feel drowsy the next day.

You are most lucky. I sleep at 2 or 3 and often 4 but I cannot get up after 7. But when I want to force sleep, I work hard till I sweat and then i read a boring book. But mostly I sleep when I get sleep.

i do many things until one of them works.
1. read book or magazine in bed.
2. do some stretch exercises or yoga or pilates.
3. drink warm milk with honey
4. drink herb tea
5. doing some exercises to relieve tension helps relaxes the body and sleep well.
6. sit in the jacuzzi, if it is not too late.
7. take a warm bubble bath.
8. write in a journal.
9. organize my stuff or just stay busy doing something, whether cleaning, laundry, etc.
10. relax in bed and enjoy a good dream.

Hi Laydee! Guess we have the same problem then. My original sleeping time is about 9-10pm. but when i started working with shifts schedules, my body clock change also and having difficulty sleeping on time specially during my grave yard shift where I have to sleep during day and awake all night again.
I now always sleep pass 12mn and same also, wake up at 6am which really sicken me because i now have less sleeping time and has less resistance to colds-my number one enemy.
Before, i tried to get to bed at 10pm trying to sleep, turn off all lights, still wouldn't work. So, what i do know, if i can't sleep, i get up, do some mylotting and facebook till my eyes really tires then go to sleep. Hahaha.
the only problem is that i get to sleep this way pass 1pm. still not happy about it. :(

I'd like to say that getting up early in the morning is a good habit. It is helpful to your body. But to keep your sleep in a good state, you can drink some milk before you go to bed. Do remember not too excited or not too sad before sleep.

Hello laydee, I also have the trouble sometimes, lie down on the bed but without sleepiness at all, and it annoyed me much. But afterwards, i think a lot on it, there is always something lingering in my mind once on the bed, so i think you may consider more things at night, you should get your heart and mind peaceful before sleeping or you may listen to light music, hope it works, good luck:)
