Is there a secret recipe for happiness?

It is my contention that there is no such recipe and that the individuals who move through life joyously have not all been blessed with lives of abundance, love, success, and prosperity. Such people have, however, been blessed with the ability to take the circumstances they've been given and make them into something great. It is our perception that makes all the difference because delight and despair come from within rather than without. Some situations will please us while others will cause us no end of grief, and it's all in the way we view them. If instead we look at all we have accomplished without dwelling on our perceived misfortune and make each new circumstance our own, the world as a whole becomes a brighter place. A simple shift in attitude can help us recognize and unearth the hidden potential for personal and outer fulfillment in every event, every relationship, every duty, and even for every setback. What are your thoughts on this?

The best way to find happiness is knowing that your stay in this world is just temporary. Counting your blessing is another. And maintaining a positive outlook on life. Cheers!

Hi ybong, Thanks for your comment and I agree that counting our blessings and having a positive outlook on life really does help. Many people however, are not in a hurry to leave this world so I'm not sure the thought that our stay here is only temporary would bring happiness to a lot of people. Blessings.

I agree with what you say. Happiness is rooted in our "happenings". Now JOY, that's a whole different thing. It's a contentment and a peace that passes all understanding.

Hello Pose, Yes there is no secret recipe on happiness. We just need to treat each and every thing that comes to us a blessing. However small it is, it is still a blessing, and we have to be thankful for that. Even the trials that come our way is a blessing. Trials are a way of teaching us the hard way. We also need to be contented in whatever things we have. Take care and have fun mylotting -- red_amethyst

Indeed happiness is a state of mind. A passer-by can see a host of flowers on his way to work but couldn't appreciate it because he has a thousand and one problems to attend to. Happiness is already in front of us yet we deem to tackle what we think matters at that moment in our lives. So we become unhappy. A simple recipe I could think of : dedicate each day of your life for the greater glory of God , remain sincere and honest to your family and circle of friends, love yourself and keep smiling!

So many times we as humans spend so much money and time trying to "find" happiness. Well first off... you can't find something you already have. Also many people try to buy happiness, which we all know is stupid and impossible because something new is always coming out. So my opinion is no, there is no recipe for happiness.

Hi eternal_ink, Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I like what you say "you can't find something you already have". This is the key, nothing can make us happy unless we are willing to "be happy". The same is true for it's opposite, nothing can make you unhappy, if you are determined to be happy. Blessings.

hi pose, The secret recipe of happiness is just knowing what is really the purpose of our life! Once we know already our purpose of life, why we are here, where is this world going, what hope for the future? If we live according to that purpose of life and then we will be satisfied because we know that we fulfilled the very purpose of our existence! I have found this very interesting website... http://www.watchtower.org/e/20080201/article_03.htm actually there are many articles here that will help you to discover yourself, again. I have done that... and I know you will also. Head's up! You are not alone.

I think that happiness is possible only if we are willing to love and appreciate every single blessing that we have. Generous and compassionate people are happier than stingy and selfish people.
