Mobile phones are certainly usable nowadays by calling and texting people in our lives. I think that the most simpliest way i can say that children needs to be provided with cellphone, and i don't see any problem with that.

I maintain all important information in my cell phone e.g. birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates with 'alarm reminder'. Therefore, when any special day comes, my cell phone reminds me about that.
Apart from it,I also keep a list of people, that is my contacts, in my computer as well as in my cell phone. I have blackberry pearl 8120 & it has place to keep email addresses & addresses. I basically have same name & addresses in my computer as well. There are times I'm working on my computer & my phone is charging & I don't feel like taking the phone off the charger & looking up a number or email address.I am a lazy person.
This is the most important point about why I required a cell phone.Apart from it,I also like calling and texting to remain in contact with my friends.
I think, children should not be provided with costly mobile handsets. They may loose it or it may become a mere playing objects which will later on led to distraction from academics.
