yes, sometimes i personally hear people writing and talking like that. they use high-sounding words maybe to impress people... but who knows, they can be very knowledgeable, in truth. i prefer to use simple yet understandable words. english is not my native language and i only have enough "mastery" of the same. as much as possible, i want to convey my thoughts using simple language to achieve my purpose of getting my points through. have a nice day.

I always try to say what I need to in the simplest, clearest way I can, both in writing and speech, online and offline. I can use big words if I have to, but in most situations other than the classroom or the science lab, difficult words are unnecessary and inappropriate. When I hear someone using unnecessary verbiage, (see, I do know some big words!) I tend to think they're trying a little too hard to parade their knowledge.

no not at all...if i should happen to use a seemingly big or "difficult" word its because its part of my vocab and it just happened to come out in the sentence...I could care less if ppl think I'm "posh" or highly educated (truth be told I have a completed gr 8 education and only 8 high school credits)...its not important to me...
have I noticed it in others...on occasion but its not something i would seek out or what have you ya know..

I would never use big words simply to sound posh or to sound like a native English speaker. For one, English is my native language so it never occurred to me to go to extreme measures to sound like a native English speaker. As for using difficult words, I would never use words that I would consider difficult for the average person. If someone does not understand what I am saying then I would have no problem finding different words in an attempt to help them understand.

No I use Big Words, because I'm well educated, I read a lot and I teach English! I sometimes lose people in our conversations but I can tell by the blank look in their eyes they don't have a clue what I'm talking about so I try to lower myself to their level!

I've seen, heard and met people who do that. Others sound good and comes out naturally but most of them are just trying so hard that it's really, really irritating. I prefer to use common language to convey my thoughts. If it happens that I use a difficult word, it will never be to please or impress someone. I don't wanna fool my own very self...

hi diamania If I do I am not at all aware of it, I just use the words that I feel will best convey the meaning of my various statements. I am well educated and assume most people are also, so do not try to water down what words I do use. I have however noticed that some difficult words are actually unnecessary as plainer words most often best convey what we are trying to say.Ernest Hemingway did quite well in his writing, and he was using plain ordinary words all people could understand.
