When I was in my teens, I went to Srirangam near Trichy, South India. My aunt took me to a river kolladam, which is a branch of Kaveri river, for bath. I told her I am afraid but she did not listen. She made me enter the water and put my head down into the river water. One second I thought I am being carried away by the water force and immediately took my head up. After this, I never ever ventured to take bath in a river or sea. How about you? Did you ever took bath in a river or sea? Were you afraid of it?

Hi Buchi, Your experience is a scared one, isn’t it? It is not a big issue for me and you know why, I used to bath in river from the childhood. I accompanied with my mother every evening. Actually washing cloths is very easy in river that is why my mother prefers to go to the river which is not far away. Now my hubby’s home is very near to the river and when I am going to my native then definitely I visit the river.

You are used to the river even in your mother's place and in your hubby's place. May be that is why you are not scared. Good enjoy. Are your children not afraid of water?

No, they are happy to play with water. Elder one is scaring the small fishes which used to bite on our legs. They renamed the river as 'achamma's puzha (grandmother's river) because she used to take her bath everyday in river.

I have taken bath many times in sea. The feel will be good while we are enjoying in sea. Later when we come out and our body becomes dry then at that time the itching starts and was not able to bear such a situation. I had to take bath with nice water so as to get rid of it. But it will be fun enjoying in sea water and the best part is when we are with friends. As they play a major role in enjoying.

hello buchi_bulla yes i do take a bath in river as well as in sea...even if i don't know how to swim, i still enjoy the experience... when i was a kid, my grandparents live near the river just about 10-15 minutes walk...and i really enjoy playing & bathing there with my cousins and the water is just great...but there are times that i also feel scared specially when the current is strong...coz there's one time that i am almost carried away by the raging water of the river...just good that my cousins are there to help me... with the sea, well just last year, my husband was assigned in a province & we stay there for more than a year & our house is just in front of the sea...so anytime we want, we can go there & take a bath... but we just go & swim there every early in the morning when the sun is not yet that high...to avoid damage in our skin... i enjoy it also, but i always stay near the shore, coz i'm scared that i might be taken away in the deep part by the waves...and afraid to get drowned...hehe

Yes I did. I'm not afraid of it and in fact, I love swimming in the river. It's refreshing and fun. I let myself be carried by the flow of water for a while and then fight it back again. And in the sea I love it when there are big waves. I love playing with the waves. One thing I don't like about swimming is the sun. I don't like to put sunblocks on my skin because it feels sticky and after swimming I get sunburns. :) Have a nice day. shadow41

I do not have much experience about river bath but certain rivers are scary and some are ok I feel. So far I have taken bath in two rivers, one I stayed near the edge of the river and took bath and the other I entered a little. Thanks for the comment.

Oh I haven't told you that in my country we usually have small rivers only so it's not that scary here. The flow of the river and the depth is just right. It's safe here and I don't know about your country. Maybe you have there gigantic rivers that's very deep that's why you're afraid. If it is then I would be afraid too and maybe I won't ever swim in your river if that's the case. shadow41

You should give it another try, in our country we have lots of rivers and we are surrounded by seas, in fact our house is just walking distance from a river and the sea. It's actually a fun way to go swimming with friends. Cheers!

I think everyone takes a bath in a river or sea..It's impossible not to.I'm afraid of water, because i don't knoe how to swim ,but in september, when i last was at the seaside,i entered the water..How not to?Even though the wales were very big, tall. You should "kill" this pussilanimity of yours and enter the water, maybe with someone near u,not to be so scared at first.Go ahead,do it!I expect a possitive answer from you!

Hi mishaela, You call it phobia, fear whatever it is, I cannot take bath in a river or sea. I am afraid of water. Only bath tub is enough for me why enough more than enough. The way you have written, I feel if you were with me near the river or sea, may be you would have forcibly taken me to the river like my aunt and made me take bath in it.

Hi Buchi, from the above story seems that you are quite afraid of taking bath in river. Actually it’s nothing so scary if standing in the shallow part of it. That is the water just beside the river bank. After you have experienced standing in the river water for several time I bet you will love it instead of be afraid. your story makes me to recall the old story how I taught my younger sister to swim in the swimming pool. She dared not immerse her head into the water no matter how many times she had learned to swim. So she still didn’t know how to swim though she had learned to swim for quite some time. I know I had to do something to make her to accustom with the water. Once I pressed her head from her back and let her immersed in the water totally for a while. Of course she blamed for this at the beginning. Since then she dared to put her head in the water while learning swimming. Yeah, she could swim well nowadays I like swimming since a little girl thought I’m not a good swimmer. There was a small river in a rubber estate near my house during my childhood. I couldn’t help but bathing in the water every time I passed by the crystal clear flowing stream I always dump my swimming costume in my suitcase whenever I go for vacation. Yeah, I don’t want to miss the chance to have fun swimming in the water. It doesn’t matter in the sea or swimming pool. There is swimming pool available in almost all the hotels. It's a wonderful feeling to have fun in the water. Moreover it's good form of physical exercise! Take care and happy posting!

Oh God, how your sister would have felt when you suddenly pressed her head down in the water? Any way you have given her shock treatment which worked well. Thanks for the detailed response.

Hello Buchi_bulla. I don't take a bath in a river, but I "swam" in the river or swimming pool as I don't know how to swim. I feel scared if I don't have a swimming ring. I am a land duck though. lol

I do swim in the sea and of course have taken a bath in the sea. But I have not really taken a bath or swam in a river. In my place there is not much river that are good for bathing or swimming. Most of them are dirty. So I did not take any risk of swimming. But if I would be able to find one that is great then surely I would swim. In so far as the sea, I swim from time to time and even go diving in the sea. There are great places to dive in our area.

I have taken bath in a river several times. When My DH went to the states for 3 months, I stayed with my in -laws' house till he came back. near by their house, Cauvery river flows in full swing. Everyday me and my ML go to that river and take bath and wash our clothes and come back. The people, who are nearby that river will bath in that river only. But i never ventured to take bath in a sea, though I have visited Arabian sea, in Bombay, Bay of bengal in Chennai and Indian ocean in Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi, because there is no place to change our clothes there

Hi my lotters.. i always had stong affinity towards water like the alkali metals :P i love swimmimg and playing in water.. and if it is with friends i would love to do it nyways i have had lots of experiences in swimming in rivers and beaches it is always nice to have friends and family around when u r having so much fun.. it feels really good when we take a bath in the river but when it comes to the beach the water is salty and u will have sand all over u when u come out of the sea..which is pretty much irritating and it spoils the thrill of swimming in the sea.. But when you are in water it feels like heaven for me..

my college is near the sea so when summer comes our classmate often go to have a swim in the sea.the beach is very smooth when i walked 50meters it still was not deep. swimming is very fun for me but the taste of sea water is not good .the water tastes bitter. when i have a swim in my hometown where there is a little river the feeling is no more good .the water is very warm ,the water is very shallow . you can just lie down and enjoy the sunshine .but i will remind you that if you can not swim you would better have a person accompany you and do not go to the center .wish you enjoy the fun of swimming.

During summer time i would go to the beach or river. It does feel good to swim in river or sea, as if you are in tune with nature. River water is much more enjoyable for it is not salty compared to sea water.

Very true. When salty water enters our mouth you feel yak. River water will be plain and the current may not be that much, if it is not flooded and big current is there.

In our region there's a lot of river system. They are still clean and free of toxic chemicals. Its so ordinary for teens to go swimming and have some fun. I had lots of time swimming with friends during teenage stage. Its was a very relaxing time and moments of laughter. Our parents would get mad if we stay very long for sometimes river's current is unpredictable.
