Dear Mylotters, I am thinking of making my own jewelry to sell in hopes of earning a little extra money. I havent begun it yet as I am afraid that I would put alot of money and time into it only for it to go bust. Please tell me what you think. Does anyone make their own jewelry and are you resonably successful at it? How much do you average in profit doing it? Does anyone know simple ways to make a little extra income while working a full time job? Any help would be really appreciated. I look forward to hearing your responses!!!! Thankyou !!!!!

I make jewelry, and I do sell some, and keep some. I have been doing it about six years. I can't really say what my profit is, because I don't consider it a business, but a hobby with benefits. Some great places to start for buying is Ebay, fire mountain gems, and rio grande. You can get all wholesale prices there, and jewelry televisions jewel school DVD's are said to be very good. I do faceted gemstones, and am not very good at beads, so I have not tried them. If you would like to check out my jewelry blog, send me a message, and I will give you the address. I have all kinds of tips there. Plus Etsy is an affordable way to list, and sell, as well as Artfire.

I made jewelries a few years back. It depends on how you would want to price it. You can charge twice or thrice the cost of all your materials used if you want. Others even make it more than thrice the amount of it. It's really up to you and how you will market it.

My dad's girlfriend makes beautiful jewelry but she won't sell it for it for a profit, it is a shame because I think she could do quite well at it. If I were You I would make up some sample earings and then get a friend to host one of those home parties for you to sell your jewelry then you could try to get other people from those parties to have parties and give them free jewelery for hosting them. Making sure to add that in to your price structure so you are still profitable.

Try going etsy.com, punch in jewelry and you will get not only ideas on what to make, what sells and what to charge. I usually price my crafts as follows: Add together the price of all of items needed to make crafts, divide by how man it made. Then times by 5. I the round up to the nearest dollar amount. People seem to like my prices and I do ok on etsy as but better at craft shows.
