A cat is a natural predator, and those things are all part of their diet in the wild. It seems that your cat still has more instincts than maybe the others have about her diet. I have had mine eat many bugs and the like, they see them move and have to stalk and kill them, and often they will then eat them, some seem to be tastier snacks than others - moths and flies are better than waterbugs...

And you would know how a waterbug tastes? I bet they are too crunchy and the lighter fare of the flying insects is a great appetizer.

It is the same reason humans go out and shoot and kill wild things to eat. It is the thrill of the catch. Chasing the prey makes the food seem savory.

no idea how a water bug tastes, just know the cats don't eat them!

Your kitty is just amusing herself, cats are natural hunters. We had a friend that took a kitten from us and it got huge eating crickets. And you may think they are horrid but there are countries that find creapy crawlies standard nutrition.

We'll, perhaps it's in their nature to do so. We might not appreciate the taste of those horrid things but I guess the catfood we give our pets are just not enough for their tastebuds and their needs for minerals.

I keep my cats food dish with food in it all the time so he can eat when he is hungry, but he still eats the types of things that you talk about. I don't know why either because he is not hungry. it must just be in their nature.

She's not really a cat... she's an alien disguised as a cat.

Hello jj. I think that this cat of yours is an exception. Maybe he wants to try something new despite he eats well in the house?

She does that because she is a cat! Cats are hunters and no matter how hard we try to domesticate them, they remain true to their nature. I have a dog that way, always on the prowl for crickets, worms, birds, etc.! Let your cat be a cat, she'll be much better adjusted if she's allowed to use her skills and keep them sharp.

Because the cat is a predator. It is instinctive to catch and eat food.

The things you mentioned would be in the normal diet of cats in the wild. Thgey are just being cats. However, there are some cats who ear things that are not digestible. I've always been careful to keep rubber bands up off the floor because I had a cat who would eat them. One of our neighbor's cats likes to eat the plastic that novelty items are encased in. I would think that the plastic might cut him on the inside, but the vet didn't seem concerned.

I had four cats at one time and they ate strange stuff also, insects and stuff and tinsel from the tree. The one that went outside(he was declawed and he stayed in the yard) would kill birds and rabbits and stuff and eat them. I always thought that if they were well fed they wouldn't eat their kill. Guess I was wrong, I always kept their dish full of dried food but he still ate what he killed. He woule leave the hearts and guts but ate everything else, even the head- ugh.

I'm not sure why they eat those awful things. It seems most cats will though, I know I have to be careful with thread when I'm sewing. My cat will try and eat it, I've got him several times licking away at the thread.

It's not really that weird for cats to eat things like that. Cats are hunters by nature, so it's actually pretty natural for them to eat bugs and things that crawl and fly. My cats go crazy for squirrels, birds, spiders, flies, and any bug that flies or crawls. And yes, they'll even eat the spiders and bugs. They've even caught and killed at least one fly before. Maybe more and probably ate it, too. It's pretty normal and I praise them for stuff like that. Especially when it's a spider!

i think they r just bringing out their wild side if they lived outside and had to hunt for their food. and since they are domesticated, they enjoy hunting in their homes or their yards for much smaller prey.

Cats are predatory creatures, most likely she just likes to hunt and maybe she likes the taste of the things she eats. As long as they aren't harming her, then I wouldn't worry about it. If she's not eating the food you give her is when I'd worry.

Its just the cats killer instinct. I've had several like that with insects & other things. Guess it makes them feel tough lol

Cats are predators by nature. It is totally natural for them to hunt and eat their prey...and has nothing to do with what you serve them for dinner. Cats, are hunters. cdrxo
