I had one that would whimper and whine in his sleep. He didn't outright bark, but you could always tell when he was having a dream. I was always curious what he was dreaming about.

Yes, I used to have a Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix that ran & barked in his sleep almost every night. It was fun to watch him, but disturbing when he waited until I was asleep to do his barking. I always wondered if it was just a rabbit he was after or if it was something much larger.

Hearing them barking through the outside wall of your home is much better than having them barking directly into your ear!!!

My shepherd does this all the time. She grunts, runs, barks and wimpers in her sleep. I don't know what she dreams about, but she's always seeming to be running and chasing something. Usually if I say her name and pet her she quiets down. I don't know about talking in their sleep, but they sure make noisy responses like barking and such. I have a hunch she's dreaming about getting that huge raccoon she goes crazy barking over in the daytime. The closest I came to having my dog 'talk' was when she was little. I taught her to make noises that actually sounded like I love you (more like: rye rah roo ). I guess it was more like a howl kinda noise. She makes noises like that with the piano too, so it seemed fun to try and teach her to howl that, I mean, hey, if she's going to howl anyways lol.

My parents used to have a dog that would kind of bark in her sleep. It wasn't a total full-on bark, of course, but she would make funny little noises like a "whisper" bark (if that makes sense). I don't think I've heard my cats meow in their sleep yet, but I've felt at least one of them twitching while she was sleeping on me.

My jack russel does. It's weird, he will actually twitch, stand up, bark for about a minute and go back to sleep. He is still a puppy so maybe he will grow out of it. One of my first dogs was a sleepwalker.

No, my dog sometimes makes noises in his sleep or acts like he is chasing things but I havent ever heard him actually barking in his sleep. That kind of thing would be really weird to hear. I think he often does bark while he is awake though. He's that kind of dog.

I have never heard my dog bark in her sleep. There have been times when her body and eyes twitch while she's sleeping, almost like a siezure. It scares me, but I think she's just dreaming. I usually just call her name and pet her and she stops.

i agree it can be scary when they twitch but i know its just a dream and hope its not a bad one. i do call thier name an pet them if it seems like thier in distress in thier dream. im shure doggie nightmares are just as scary as people nightmares!
