I am living in India and for the internet connction, I am using the BSNL Broadband connection, which is owned by the Union Government. But here I am getting a poor service and the customer care service is very poor. Here, I lodged the complaint many times and no official turned to proble it.I dont have an alternative here, to switch to other service. When, I am checking the status of the internaet connection, the received packets are ten times more than the sent packet. I doubt that this line is tapping by somebody for their broadband use.

Hi varghese,
I am using the broadband connection from MTNL. Connection is not so fast but ok I can do the work. If the connection is down then the MTNL people are so fast to repair the same and I am happy with their attitude. If there is any serious problem then they will inform that ‘we are trying to resolve the problem at the earliest’. Comparing to other services this service provider is good.

Hi Gunagohan.
In South BSNL is popular and Airtel is also doing their service efficiently everywhere. Their charges are also high. If we compare the charges in between MTNL and Airtel I prefer MTNL. If you are getting good service at low price, what will be your choice.

but in our south india , airtel services are very much better than others, because when u lodge a complaint, they ll come very soon and repair at the earliest, they are following all principles of management and they have done their best in Total quality management, that is why they have 110 million subscribers for airtel network( mobile communication) and their broadband services are reaching very fastly...
i m telling all these, but i use BSNL broadband connection...

i'm in australia, i've got pre-paid wireless broad band. recepition is ok not slow that's for sure, i think it may even be faster than what bigpond is. my partner has that on his computer. thou i'm not happy with big pond at the moment, they can't fix the email problem then asked for the details all over again. i've not gotten round to taking away to get fixed. then we're moving from bigpond cause you can't get good deal.
but i did find sorry to say females aren't very good at helping on computer issues or at least the one i spoke to wasn't.
i find there's to many providers, but it just depends on where you are.

Hi...weasel
Thank you for your response in this topic and it is happy to note that you are getting a fairly good service. Even in India the Government owned BSNL started the prepaid broadband connection from yesterday. Here also we have very good providers like Reliance and Airtel. But it is not available in the area where I am staying

i see what you mean, one day they will get to where you are so you can have better service. it's taken yrs to get useful recipition with optus here, my phone is now working better. but the bigpond is another story, my boss said we're at the wrong angle from the tower even they need an aeral to get better service, their only across the road from me.

Well unfortunately, you have socialized internet service. When the government owns the system, you get crappy service. It's the government, you can't do anything about it, accept demand your government privatize the service.
Here in the US, I have internet service through my cable company Time Warner. I love it. Very very fast. Very little down time ever. I have had it for 7 years. Last year my internet started to have some problem.
I called them up, and they sent a guy out 2 days later, he checked it, said the cable modem was bad, hooked up another one, and left. Everything works great since then.
Cost me $40 a month, less than my electric bill.

Hi...andy
Thank you for your response in this discussion. After many days' follow ups I got it repaired. I agree with yu that the government sevice will be always crappy. Here also we have cable service and the private service prodviders. But the service is not available in my area. I was using the Airtel Broadband previously and the customer care was very fast to attend the fault. But when I shifted to a new area, there is no service other than this BSNL. BSNL speed and performance is very good, but the customer care is very hopeless

I live in the U.S. and have cable internet service from Comcast and a wireless network in my home. It's very fast and I have very few problems or downtime. It doesn't surprise me that you would have poor service from a government run program. I think that is the same no matter what country you live in. Sadly, a lot of people in this country think that it would be good to have more government run programs... It boggles the mind.

Hi...miller
Thank you for your response in this discussion.I agree with you that the government services are poor. I can certify this about India. Whatever services are there, it is very poor in India. Nobody wanted to work here in the Government departments.

Hi there. I'm Lori. I live in California U.S. I use HughesNet. It's supposed to be worldwide, but as I am not a globetrotter, I wouldn't know. Its performance leaves little to complain about. Good luck.

Hi...Sridharsahu
Thank you for your response . I am using the BSNL Boadband connection of 750 plus that is unlimited uploading and downloading. My connection was working very fine before two months. From the past two months, this is very slow and sometimes , I cannot not be connected My problem is that nobody will attend the complaints here. If somebody is willing they will ask money for the service what they are giving

i too use BSNL Broadband....They never turn up fastly, when i lodge a complaint...first the basic question is, whenever u try 1500 or 198 , u will never get a customer care executive for your help..this is the basic fault..so i always walk to the nearest exchange and tell them about the fault...but i use BSNL Broadband for their better Bandwidth ....what can we say 2MBps is our bandwidth and downloading Bandwidth is 252Kbps, where other service providers browsing bandwidth is our downloading Bandwidth..
the only reason im using BSNL is their speed...

I am using MTNL broadband connection....the speed I get is 256 kbps....although not good at all but is good enough for my work....I am changing the service provider not because of the speed but due to intermittent connection....with regards to customer service....average....

Hi..sumanadep
thank you for your response in this topic. I am not at all happy with this BSNL. The service sometimes is fantastic. But the customer care is very poor. I was using the Airtel Broadband till last year. This was fantastic. Their customer service is beautiful. Now I shifted to a remote place and the Airtel is not available there. So I have to depend this connection.

And the pingtest:

Ping 14ms
Jitter 6 ms
Grade: A.
The costumer service is fairly good although at times it occurs that the person on the other side doesn't have a clue where you're talking about I believe it is ridiculous since that number is expensive to call. Like 80 cents per minute... :S You'd expect some quality against that price.

hi i am arman. i am also using BSNL broadband i know sometime it,s service is going very bad but you also know only bsnl gives you high speed in cheapest price. so you and also i prefer bsnl. i am a cafe owner i also use airtel's service airtel gives you very best and high speed broadband but it very costly i use 2 mb speed in my cafe and monthly charge of net is 6000 thousand for internet only. so if you want single pc at home use bsnl only. have nice day.

I also use the broadband connection speed. and i am happy with the connection performance. they are really giving what they claimed.
yes i agree with the customer service. as they respond as the govt employee still and dont care about customers.
but if you say that you have the diffence in packet sending and receving. that is not due to tapping. in broadband through phone the line is divided in channels and almost 8 times of channels are allocated to the receiving of the data if compare to send data.
it is practical while using internet most of the time we use downloading instead of uploading. so this allocation is based on efficient use of bandwidth allocation and resource management.
dont worry about your connection.
