I am one of those people that if I don't like what I am eating I will sit and pick at my food. I will also pick at my food if I like what I am eating but don't like a cetain thing that is in my food. I can be very picky when it comes to eating food. From time to time you will catch me picking at my food. Some people might think it is rude but it is normal to me. I am not trying to offend anyones cooking when I pick at food it is just a habit that I have. It is a hard habit to break. I do embarass my mom when I pick at my food in a restraunt. I don't mean anything by it.

sometimes it happens to me, if it can't be helped that the food is on my plate. if i had the choice, i would not get foods that i like less or don't like at all. it would be an ordeal for me personally having to eat these that i don't like to eat. and if i am in a party or a smorgasbord style, i pick very small amount of the food that i am unfamiliar with. that way, i can finish my plate without leaving anything. it has become my habit to consume what i get. (been telling this to my children not to waste food and think about other people not getting any food to eat, lol)

HA It was normal for me for a while, and every once in a while, it's still "normal" for me. I used to have MEGA food issues; I would starve myself for days and then binge afterwards. And going to restaurants was literally a pain in the butt for me - because I had to make it LOOK like I was eating - but I was really just picking at my food, trying to separate fat foods from "safe" foods, and pushing food around my plate to make it look like I ate. So I definitely "meant something" by it, in my own personal way. Thankfully I don't do that as often now, and I have more control over my food issues. But I really don't think picking at your food at a restaurant is that big of a deal; it's not rude in my opinion. I think picking at your food when at an event hosted by someone who cooked - is showing a little disrespect, but you can't help it if you don't feel like eating or aren't hungry.
