I have accidently brke something in a store. I went to pick up this item and dropped it and it was glass. It ended up shattering all over the floor. I felt horrible about breaking the item. I was lucky because they did not make me pay for the broken item. I would have hated to pay for something I could not take home in one piece. I am alot more careful when it come to picking things up in the stores. I don't want to break anything ever again. It is quite embarrassing.

no, i haven't. but i was in the store to witness a child breaking a large vase in the store. his mother was looking at some things while the child was also busy with himself. he accidentally hit the large vase and it fell and broke down. the parents were made to pay for the vase. lucky for them it was not too expensive and was able to pay it outright.

ok, this is wrong, but, one time I was in a store in a foreign country and I broke something just picking it up. I freeked out cause I didn't have the money to pay for it and not knowing the language I didn't even know how to explain, so I just put it back broken and walked out. What would you have done?

hello tuckersheri,
i know how you feel for i broke a souvenir too in a store. i was with my wife back then and she was already paying in the cashier when i broke something by accident.
good for you for they did not let you pay for it. well maybe, just maybe, they will not let me pay for it too but since my wife was already in the cashier and she felt that we were obliged to do so that's why she did it. it's not that destroyed anyway, just the handle of it. it can still be displayed but we just keep it in a safe.
it's really embarrassing and from then on, i am not touching any fragile item anymore ever.

What, they did not make you pay for it!! You are lucky. 'You break it, you buy it' is the general rule of stores.
I am careful at stores, so that I do not break stuff at any store.

hi tuckersheri^^;;
i had the same experience before. i broke the cover of a pyrex glass cooking ware that cost around $30. i was embarrassed and didn't have enough cash though i had my debit card with me. the sales clerk insisted that i would pay but when the owner came, she let me go without paying. i was so thankful ofcourse, and the other reason that saved me was her husband was running for a mayor in our city

I am always very careful when around breakables, but my mother did once break
a snow globe thing. it was pretty noticeably, as there was water and glass everywhere-
but no one saw it.

Oh yes! It can be so embarrassing…I’ve not broken any article but I dropped a pack of sugar and there was sugar all over the floor. Actually it was not my fault either as the bag was not well sealed…I just picket it up and due to the weight of the sugar it sagged and I was left holding the upper part of the bag while the sugar and the lower part were on the floor…the shopkeeper was miffed of course but there was little he could do as he too understood that the pack was not strong enough. However, like you, I’m now more careful as to how I pick up things.

I honestly do not recall ever doing that myself. I know my daughter has done it before though. We were shopping for some candles and the lid popped off all of a sudden and the jar hit the floor and busted. We reported it so it could be cleaned up.

This is utterly one of the few things I'm paranoid about when I'm in a store. I am really afraid to break something. It sure is good to have not had the experience of doing so.
Anyhow, my grandmother's sister wasn't so lucky, she (together with her grandson) were at the grocery when accidentally the grandson (who was around 2 that time) had hit a large bottle of mayo with his toy, it fell and was broken. It was expensive and she had to pay for it.

Hi tuckersheri,
Fortunately I haven’t done anything like that so far. Yes it is true; we may feel embarrassment for destroy something even though it has done by mistake. I think that store-keeper was kind enough for not charging anything from you. I am also very careful especially when my kids are with me. I will try my best to keep them in control otherwise they love to run here and there in the store.

That is much true. It is so embarrassing to be in that situation. I haven't tried one and hope will not. I am really much careful when I shop in a place where there are fragile things that are being displayed over the place.
Good thing they did not let you pay for it. because in our malls here, if you break something it is considered sold and you really have to pay for it.

Ha Ha, a very nice topic, and one thing this happens when you have nothing in your pocket, i.e. no paper money or plastic one.
The position of the person becomes very shabby.

When I was a kid, I was in a store with my mother that had a lot of expensive glass items. I didn't touch anything because I was too afraid that I was going to break something. So I was just walking through the store behind my mother and next thing I know this expensive glass item goes crashing to the floor behind me.
Of course, my mother freaks out and claims that I was touching it and I broke it and now we'll have to pay for it. That kind of thing. No matter how much I swore that I didn't touch it, she didn't believe me. Thankfully, the owner of the store wasn't too worried about it being broken and never made us pay for it breaking. I got a stern lecture about it and I kept insisting that I never touched it. The store owner said that maybe my jacket string caught on it as I walked by because I was wearing a jacket and it was not zipped up. Thankfully they thought it was an accident and trust me it was! I just wish my mother thought it was.

Hi there, Oh yes I did. I was looking for a gift for my friend and I went to a gift shop near our place that specializes on making figurines and glass display. When I'm about to pick the design that I accidentally dropped the item on the floor. It was a small sized dolphin display with some stars on its tail..its cute.. I felt so bad. I just said that i'm gonna pay for it instead. But the store manager was so kind, and she doesn't make me pay for it.
