Well then what books did you love reading when you were a child?
Well I'm quite boring as it was anything by Enid Blyton... the school tales Famous Five Sercet Seven, Mr Pinkwhistle, Mr Meddle and so forth, anyone else think of any other Enid Blyton titles.
From the age of about thirteen I read most of the Catherine Cookson books.
I am very keen to come back and see what everyone else read when a child, espically people who don't live in England, be nice to read what top authors other countries have, ie we have Enid Blyton, so what are other countries equal authors to her etc.
Happy Reading

Not to mention all of Roald Dahls books!

I used to read V.C. Andrews but that didn't happen until my young adult-ness... maybe age 20 or so? They were REALLY good! And reading them as a young adult *and even younger mother* I wouldn't allow my child to read them unless she was a mature 16... I know, I'm a shelter-er LOL

I agree! My kids have a TON of Dr. Seuss books. Horton Hears a Who is my ALL TIME FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!! I have a couple of the large sized (8" x 14" or so hardcover) Dr. Seuss books for my OWN collection (Horton Hears a Who, Horton Hatches the Egg, Oh The Places You Will Go). I try telling my husband that I want more of those books every year & he never buys them for me... I'll have to buy them myself but I'm not allowed to buy anymore books *personal rule* until I read ALLLLLL the books on my bookshelves but that's taking FOREVER since people keep giving me more & more books LOL

Hello Anne, this is quite funny as now that I think about it, I remember reading some really funny books! I don't know if you remember or have heard of them but, Billy Blue Hat? Roger Red Hat? Do you remember those books? What about the Mr Men books? Ok, I'm really returning to a very young age when I read these books, it's funny that I still remember them. I think that over the years your reading improves and you tend to go for more challenging books, I certainly do. I love melodramas and true life stories. Anyway, I think they still have those books somewhere, the ones I mentioned above! Andrew

I can hardly remember me reading books during my childhood years. If there was, it was mostly books that we use from school. Though there were books on fairy tales that I have read but most of them were with pictures. One thing I do remember however were the Hardy Boys books that I have read later on in my childhood years. I have read each of them from the first published up to the last. If I am not mistaken, the first one was "The Tower Treasure" well something about treasure and tower. It really fascinated me that I would borrow 2-3 books during weekend and read them when I have no classes.

I loved reading the books of Tintin. Tintin is a marvellous character. I have read the books of Tinitn, many of them again and again and I have been overwhelmed by the wonderful stories. I guess none else could produce such marvellous stories. Tintin is unique and incomparable, good not only for children, but also for adults who are innocent like children.

I had the Hardy Boys mystery novels! For some reason, I loved Frank and Joe's detective work. And how their best friend Chet would screw up their work and get them in trouble. I remember having a lot of these books and starting a collection, because I had the hard bound ones. Now, the only title I could remember is 'The Mystery of the Crooked Nose'.

I loved reading Judy Bloom and S.E. Hinton the best. I've also read their adult books now, but I think their kids stuff was better.

What a great topic. Thank you!
The two books that I re-read more often than any others when I was young were Charlotte's Web and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I highly recommend them!

I liked reading the lion, the witch and the wardrobe, that was my favorite. My son was telling me one day about this book he was reading and I was surprised to find out that other books after the lion witch and the wardrobe came out and it was a series.
When I was around 13 I started reading the VC Andrews series of flowers in the attic.
For some reason now I can't climb into books like I used to and now I wish I could.

I was a fan of the 'Secret Seven' and the 'Famous five' etc. I also just loved th Little Women books. A few years ago when I was in New England I went to their home - somewhere near Concorde I think. This was amazing and I saw the drawings by Amy everywhere, She used to draw on the walls or anywhere ther was a flat surface. I also saw Meg's wedding dress and had a tour of the house. It was autobiographical and I actually re read the books again. It was a wonderful experience. I would read anything and still do. The Arthur Ransome books also thrilled me. Have read everything Catherine Cookson wrote too. She could really spin out a tale. I also was a fan of Charles Dickens and one wet summer read several of his books - unabridged - and I was only nine years old. He came from Portsmouth which was my home as a child. We read a lot as there wasn't any television but even when we got a television it still did not stop me from reading. If you have a couple of books then you are not lonely.

When I was a young girl I loved reading "Little Women". I also loved reading the Nancy Drew Detective Bookds. I would get a new on every year either on my birthday or Christmas. They were such good books I would hate it when the book ended. The books you mentioned I never heard of. I guess that is because I live in the States.
Happy reading and Happy Mylotting!

I used to read a lot of stuff, mostly fantasy books! The book that helped me start reading was Charlotte's Web by E.B.White! And then I started to read Harry Potter, Darren Shan, Unfortunate Events, His Dark Materials, Stephen King books, Artemis Fowl, Catherine Webb's Mirror Dreams (and the sequel)! Ahh, there's just so many I can't fill them all here! :D But I loved reading every one of them! It helped me learn English better, understand how human personality can be made (although it might not be the same in real-life, but there are similar traits that's relatable!) and I learned new words too! :D I think I read books as much as I watched movies! :D
