I always find it very funny whenever I watch Shallow Hal on DVD. I love the story so much, not because of the funny actor Jack Black, but what the movie message has in store. Do you guys get the movie? Get the message? What's your take.. I'd like to read.

i have this thing about jack black... i don't know... it's either you like or hate him in his movie roles... perhaps because of his very... very strong personality which fits him very... very naturally. hehehe
i have watched shallow hal several times... totally enjoyable. and i liked the message it wants to portray. and i hope it would be an eye-opener for some of the shallow people who only look at the beauty from what appears in the eyes. there's still beauty and goodness inside a person... if only others would give a little effort to look beyond appearances.
there were really funny moments in the movie... great switching on how hal perceived people while being "hypnotised" and the way his buddy and others see thru his eyes. each of the other would have to guess who is blind.
and i liked the ending... made everyone happy.

yeah... that thing about jack black... fits hal to the bill.
one part i didn't like though... is the kissing scene between hal and the helper. it is part of the story, i admit... but the helper could have been a younger version... hehe kinda destroyed for a moment what i envisioned as a romantic mistake.
oh... just me thinking out loud.

You summarized the movie very well.
I like the thing about Jack Black; it's either he can be very irritating or charming..
I like the ending too; everyone is happy and I'm glad that Gwyneth's character doesn't go back to being 'slim'. Shows that there's a happy ending to the truth, after all..

Yes, I have watched Shallow Hal in the past. It is a nice humor movie and it is also meaningful. I like this movie even thought the actor is not handsome. That means to say that this movie is really successful. We can't judge people by the appearance only. Some may look ordinary but they have golden hearts. I think this is what this movie wants to tell us.
I love China

Yes2x, you are right. Jack Black (the so called hero in the movie) is extremely talented and he's like so funny. This movie is especially meaningful and I think has a special message to both women and men out there..
Thanks for your time, youless..

This is the second time I read a discussion answer saying they have watched it on cable. That's cool, right they are featuring movies like this.
I have other Jack Black movies on DVD I'm going to watch during my free time, and starting with School of Rock. .. he's just a great and awesome actor. But Ben Stiller is tops.. then him.. or so..
Wait2x.. the blond in the cab? Oooooh, that 'geeky' one.. lol ..

I really liked the movie, it's been a long time since I saw it. The story was wonderful and people should think about what it says--don't judge a book by its cover! Hal fell in love, the real thing, when he didn't let looks get in the way.

The movie makes you think. All too often we are keen on our physical attraction to someone rather than trying to get to know someone first then allowing ourselves to develop real feelings.

Same here. I posted a discussion relating to it remember?
The movie is a loaded comedy. Sure, it is funny in most parts and there are some serious moments but in the end, all of those antics, jokes, and dialogues come together to back up the very message of the story. I also think that there are a lot of messages that can be picked up in the movie, and not just one general theme.
It still is an excellent movie. One that would forever be in my all time faves.

Wow.. I didn't realize this reply from you.. so sorry..
After someone answered then I realize. The notification's not working for 3 months, I suppose. Sorry yeah. I like the scene the most when Jack Black's character realizes Rosemary for who she is; her real self and still falls in love with her. That's like totally awesome..

What are the scenes in the movie that strikes you more than the others?^_^ Mine would be when Jack Black and were arguing in the living room after Mauricio 'cured' Jack Black. It was that "third party perspective" comment that I would never forget.^_^
Im doing okay, zed. Enjoying the Halloween break, before second semester starts.

hi zed,
oh! the 2001 movies is very hilarious...especially when the scenes is all about the undergarments Jack catch it and it so big....hehehe
well... Hal under hypnosis see Rosemary as sexy which most guys see the physical beauty rather than the inner beauty...
The movie for me conveys this kind of messages nothing could defeat a good heart as beauty fades while a good character remain to last till the end of time..which matter most on any relationship anyone could be beautiful even the ugly if you have the money..
thus anyone could lie about the physical, with a matter of surgery..
but no surgical operation could change a bad attitude...
so what matter at the end is the inner beauty as physical fades...

well..the movie is awesome...
thus, beauty is what the eyes see first, beyond those is left unseen unless one spent some times dissecting what is hidden beyond those glorious facade...

nope...wow..like a zombie...
what the eyes see is not true at all.. beyond what the eyes could not see is even greater good and it's up for you to decide according to your conscience..
what really matter you may either choose between lust for beauty or the beautiful heart...
oh, you're not a himbo zed-k4, as you are smart guy in a nimbo!

shallow hal is a easy to dig movie. beauty is not just seen by the eyes it is also felt to the heart. once a perso is a beauty inside then you are beauty also outside. it is a funny thing to watch for my wife and i loves watching a few movies of jack black. shallow hal and school of rock and nacho libre are the ones we both love watching. how about you how do you dig this movie?

School of rock truly rocks! I agree.. Nacho Libre too.. I've watched all 3, including Shallow Hal starring the man, Jack Black. He is just all so funny and such a natural actor with comedy genre. Have you tried to watch Tropic Thunder, the one he acted alongside Ben Stiller? That one's quite a funny movie, too..

I like Jack Black and I enjoyed the movie very much. The message of course is about the futility of outer beauty without the inner splendour. It is funny and depicts the way the world is heading with priority on looks versus inner beauty.

hello zed! one doesn't have to finish watching the movie, just to get the message across. its a nice movie, a feel-good after. i really do not enjoy it, its gets boring somewhere but my partner like to watch it and he's having a good laugh so i stick watching. its more favorable to the girls and we all wish we meet a man with a heart that looks inside the woman, and not the physical appearance.

I have watched Shallow Hal a few times and I too found it very funny. I sort of agree with the message and it actually shows what people these days think about beauty. They don't tend to look inside someone to know more about them. Beautiful people are really not that good from the heart but there are always few exceptions.

Hey der....Howz it going wid you? Its always good to see your discussions and this is one of them. I love shallow hal too. I love the message it portrays that looks doesn't matter when you are in love. She/he isn't supposed to look perfect to be the perfect one for you! I so believe that. And yeah, the movie on the whole was quiet entertaining and funny.

Thanks for being an active user to my discussions, I totally appreciate it very much..
I love the movie too; it has a very good message for both men and women never to be superficial. If you can remember, the neighbor whom is looking smoky hot, she tends to be fickle-minded too and wants to date Hal all over again after noticing that Hal has been with the bigger version of Gwyneth Paltrow.

I like Shallow Hal... just watched it last night in cable... and i think that is already like the nth time... Jack Black is a very funny actor and Gwyneth Paltrow did justice to the role... she still looked pretty even with the fat suit...
But what i do not like about it is that how they portrayed beautiful and ugly people... it's like all ugly people are good and all beautiful ones are not... and we all know that is no the case in reality...

They show it on cable too? Wow... I think the last time I watched was not so long ago, but on DVD..
That's right; not all ugly people are good and beautiful people are bad. There's a fine line there, truly. But I think it's like an art imitating life, or some parts of life, not all. Good analysis there, aseretdd..

OMG, I had forgotten about that movie. I wish EVERYBODY in the world were hypnotized like Hal. We ALL put too much emphasis on the outside of a person!!! There are a LOT of beautiful people out there...just not on the outside. Their inner beauty is MUCH MORE important than their outer beauty!!! I'd like to say to anyone reading this...If you only look at the outer beauty of a person, you're missing half of their soul!!! There are a lot of gems just waiting to be discovered!!!

Very well said, Marissa..
If really we could see everyone through the beauty of their insides, there might be lots of ugly people lurking and lots of beautiful people as well. That would be super interesting..
I like the gems part waiting to be discovered.. sounds like a hidden treasure to me..wiiieee..

I absolutely love Shallow Hal!! I have seen that movie may be 3-4 time? I guess.. more like 4-5 times..:)
I adore Jack Black. He is this really cute comedian who has the best comic sense. He is so hip and doesn't have to try to be funny.
The message that the movie has in store for all of us is important. In this day and age where almost everything is governed by how we look, it's important to realize that the inner beauty is the only thing that will last a lifetime.
I also loved the fact that this movie is about someone who was obese. Most movies in this genre deal with people who are not too good looking, and then they get this whole makeover done.. VoilĂ ! They turn into pretty people. But here, the fact is that his perception of her changed. She still remained overweight. Good story line :)

I like the movie too. I have watched it a couple of times especially now that it has been shown on TV severl times by an international channel. The message is quite clear. From the title itself, somehow people would get what it means. It is about seeing beauty from within.
