Hai friends, Christmas has entered the beginning of our street. Two more months to enter our house. Do you have the habit of giving gifts to your near and dear ones, your friends, relatives and family? If so what type of gifts do you usually give them? What are you planning now for this year Christmas or is it a surprise?

Hi Buchi,
I am not a Christian by birth but I do respect all religions. On Christmas Eve we buy gift for the family who take care of my sons in day time. Usually we visit their home and give a gift and cake etc. We prefer to call our Christian friends and wishing them a Happy Christmas. Preference of gift may varies on every year, sometimes we give saree, winter cloths etc

Giving winter clothes is a good idea. How many ever they have, one more will add to it and not a waste. It will come handy. It is a good idea also in the sense, the whole year they are taking care of your children. So just like thanks giving, this visit of yours and gifts will amount to. Valara nannayittundu ningal seyyunnadu mole. Sorry to kill the language. I very much want to learn Malayalam.

I've started thinking of gift ideas, but I have a long way to go. I'm not buying as many gifts as I usually do, because like many others, the economy is taking a toll. Immediately family and significant other only this year. My immediate family lives about 17 hours away (by car) so I have to figure in shipping costs as we won't be together this year.

Are you not going to meet your immediate family this Christmas? Anyway since you have to plan your purchases, start from now on so that you can get good gifts with less purse bite.

I'll be in England with my significant other for Christmas this year, so I won't see my family. I'm going home for Thanksgiving though, so I may see if I can get my shopping done by then and tell them not to open anything until Christmas! Good advice to get start ASAP though!

I like your words in the sense, if you give what they like, then they will make use of it and we will feel happy. On the other hand, if they do not like it and throw in a corner, we feel sad. After all how much time and money has gone into buying it, right from planning and deciding for it?

I generally used to give small gifts to the children and take a sweet box to each family and wish them during Xmas. We used to sing and play with the children and see their decorations and bedecked christmas plant and come back home

I give all kinds of things for Christmas, as long as they are in my budget. It's hard to buy everyone expensive gifts, because there are so many people to buy for. Last year I bought everyone a pound of really good coffee from my favourite coffee shop. This year a friend of my husband's and mine just published a book, and we are planning to give my relatives copies of his book for Christmas.
