i DON'T KNOW IF EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT I MEAN WHEN I SAY SOUL FOOD. iT IS GOOD OL' TENNESSEE HOME COOKING. My grandson & i were coming home from his soccer game yesterday & he spotted pumpkins at the farmer's market so we had to turn around & go back & get him pumpkins. While we were there i bought some fresh mustard greens. To be honest they are a pain to fix but they were the best i think i ever cooked. All i had w/them were boiled eggs & cracklin' cornbread. How many of u have eaten greens, eggs & cracklin' cornbread? That is some good soul food.

Hi Jo! I can't say that I've ever had that but most homemade foods are "oh so good!" because it is homemade and no preservatives and artificial this and that is added. I'm not much of a shopper or a cook but I can make some things homemade but most often, I buy the already made things IF they taste good from a previous time. My mom is a homemade person and loves to cook but she can't anymore due to her coordination being so bad. She really misses it.

i was pretty sure u would know what good ol' soul food was, know anniefanniie does to. Beans & fried potatoes are hard to beat to. the main thing for greens is a whole lot of fried meat grease for seasoning or salt pork if u had rather season w/meat. Happy sunday to u & thanks for responding.

well as you know I live in the south, however I have never had greens fixed a way that I like them....eggs and cornbread, yes (which is great I may add). I have never been a fan of greens...they taste too bitter for me.

I have been hiding.....lol. Seriously, it seems like I don't have any time for me anymore. Between the kids, hubby and work I am always gone, or doing laundry, cooking or housework. By the time I actually get to relax, I usually fall asleep before I get the computer turned on. I'm glad to see you haven't forgotten about me.

hi antiquelady I have never been to Tennessee but I do like mustard greens and love corn bread, but boiled eggs like hard boiled eggs, I have never tried that combination.I like eggsalad with hard cooked eggs and some mayonaise so suppose I would like hard boiled eggs with greens, I do love cornbread. I was born and raised in South Dakota on a farm and we often had cornbread with beef stew, cattle country you know, and often cornbread with chili con carne too. I think one of our comfort foods was always roast beef or tbone steaks or tenderloin steaks and baked potatoes. Now steaks like that are ultra expensive. how times change.

I could eat a big ol' tbone right now. sounds good. Looked at one at the grocery other day , saw the price & put it right down, lol. Thanks for responding. Have a happy day.

DEar Jo,
I know perfectly well what you mean by soul food. Mine is not the same dish you made but it serves the same purpose.
I like to eat some veggies with rice and eggs.Cornbread would be an out of this world addition.
I´m glad your grandson likes soccer. My hubby was a pro soccer player in his time.He was the best in his position in my country for many years and went to a World cup in England (1966).
Hug!

I have no doubt that anything u cook would be delicious, Marg. I think cornbread is good w/all veggies. Ryan has really enjoyed soccer & i really think sports are great for kids. I have really enjoyed his games & he has done great. he has scored 18 goals during the season. he has more game & he is alredy dreading that they are about over. They are all so cute playing. Good for your husband, i'm impressed. hugs to u.

I'll take some collard greens, some dried pintos and rice , fried fat back and biscuits. Now that's comfort food. Even better if you have some country ham and red eye gravy to put over some of that rice. Or another favorite is breakfast for supper. Good ole grits, ham and eggs. Good "stick to your ribs" food.

Oh, yes I've eaten those foods. I lived for several years between North Carolina and Tennessee and I loved lots of the food there. I've never eaten better greens. Now I wish I had learned how they were fixed because I'd love to have it again.

THEY ARE GOOD. I live in tennessee , u should have hung around u were in a good place, lol. They are not hard to fix, It takes longer to get them ready to cook than anything. First of all i go through themleaf by leaf & take out all the stemmy partsm, then i saok them in salt water for awhile then run them through 2 or 3 more batches of water. they take alot of seasoning to be good. I use fried meat grease but u can use ham hocks, bacon whatever. i put salt, pepper , hot pepper & a little sugar, get my water boiling & PUT THE GREENS IN. COVER THEM & LET THEM COOK TILL TENDER. tHESE WERE SOOOO GOOD. GUESS THE MAIN THING I HADN'T HAD THEM IN AWHILE EITHER.IF u have any questions about cooking them pm me, be glad to help u.
