Removing Games and Programs - So SLOW!

I'm cleaning up my hard disk to save some space. I have a ton of games installed that I never play anymore. Some of these programs --- for some unfathomable reason --- don't contain an uninstall.exe. So I'm left using Vista's "Programs and Features" feature in the control panel, which is probably the best way to handle it anyway.
Some of these games uninstall immediately. Others just seem to hang forever. I'm removing one which has hung at "validating install" for the last ten minutes. The process slows down my system and makes me wonder if anything is really even happening. It's very frustrating.
Am I doing something wrong? Why do some programs uninstall almost immediately while others hang ad naseum? There seems to be no ryhme or reason either. I've had massive games uninstall quickly, and tiny ones take forever. Are the ones that are taking longer somehow uninstalling "better", leaving less traces of themselves in the registry than the ones that uninstall quickly? And what would really be the problem if I went into my C or Programs folder and just deleted the games outright (the ones that seem to take an hour to uninstall, that is), then run a good registry cleaner afterwards? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.
Signed,
Frustrated!

Option#1 If your games are installed in D drive, you can format your D drive after you saved your important files.( you do not format the C drive that contains you OS) Option #2 Yes some downloaded files don't come with uninstaller, it is either you purchase the uninstaller from the game or Option#3 Use an Uninstaller Program, eg CC Cleaner, Tune Up Utilities, PC Tools. it you do not have these programs you can download it free from cnet.com ( use the trial version only )
