When i was in college we did a thesis on improving the pupils poor reading comprehension. According to the result of our experiment, small group discussion is an effective intervention in proving the reading comprehension of pupils. In fact small group discussion is more effective in answering not only low level questions but also high level questions. I hope my response will be of help to you.

We read not only to see the words, but understand behind the lines. After the basic reading classes, students should be taught to read out the line of thoughts, structures, themes, in addition to facts and details. Reading skills are good tools to improve reading comprehension, but only based on reasonable amount of reading exercises.

I think only two (2) great intangible factors that able to contribute reading comprehension; exciting and rewarding. Exciting on the reading contents material and full of sharing knowledge values to be accepted as rewarding. Justly like an excitement drink by comparison, tasteful and healthy. A good author capable to edifies many readers bragging with quality reading contents till making readers feeling resistant is futile.
