Last night when I came back home, there was a newborn kitten lying down in front of my house, the eyes were still closed. I didn't know what to do with her, as I have no experience or knowledge taking care of a newborn cat. As I was afraid that my dog will hurt her, hence I put her inside the yard of my neighbor's house, which nobody is currently staying.
Just now when I came back from work, I saw the kitten lying down in front of my house, dead. I felt quite sad about it. It could be caused by the hot sun, or because lacking of take care by the mother. I don't know if I could have done something and prevent the death of the kitten. I didn't dare to keep the kitten in my house, as there was nobody in the house to take care of her. Also, I was hoping the mother could come back and pick her up. I am not sure if the kitten was born in front of my house, hence she still crawled from the yard to outside, perhaps waiting for the mother to come and take care of her.
This is the first time I saw such a young kitten, and this is the first time I saw it died. I was hoping if I can keep her in the yard next door, and bringing her some food or drinks, at least when she has gained the skills to survive.
Why did the mother abandon her?

How very sad a thing to go through. It is hard to know why the mother abandoned the kitten. Sometimes, as the person above me said, it is because they know something is wrong with the baby and that it will not survive.
I have taken care of abandoned newborn animals, but you're right, that it would at first require constant attention, warmth, and very frequent feedings of the right liquid with a doll bottle.
I doubt that you could have saved this poor little one. But at least you did what you thought you could, so take heart in that.

I am sorry you had to experience that. It is a mystery as to how the newborn got there. Usually a mother cat will lick the newborns and revive them straight away. I have been around cats all my life so I would probably have wrapped it and tried to feed it. Mother cats have been known to do some pretty strange things. I have come home to a new batch of cats more than once. One time the mother cat had eaten some of them and only afew parts were left laying about. Natural does have it's oddities.

That's a massive bummer. The mother shouldn't have abandoned her kid like that and I doubt that would happen on purpose. Something obviously happened that caused the mother to do what she did. Maybe the kitten was abandoned by its owner?
