It depends on who's receiving or negotiating the salary raise. In due time one may consider the fact that they need more than just a salary, that personally they need to do something on their own, but many times people are just afraid of what they don't know, of what "might" happen. We need to take challenges, risk what we can afford to risk and have the initiative to do something different and depend on someone else to get a limited salary. Remember, if you raise your own money the hard way, working on your own, it's a far more pleasent sensation since you start to feel independent.
