It is illegal for taxpayer money to be used for party politics

It is against the law for taxpayer money to be used for purely party politics or individual campaigns. That being true, why are millions of taxpayer dollars spent for the two major parties to choose their presidential candidates? The primary elections, being purely partisan should be funded and run entirely by the parties. The two major parties, Congress and everyone else involved are breaking the law.

Obviously. That has been so since ever and hard to belive will stop soon and is valid reality for all over the world. Why they do it ? Because they have no interest to spend their OWN money when they can have same results using YOUR money. Because of greed, because they want to have more. Because they can. And while they know is illegal and will annoy some of tax payers, they still do it and have more fun doing it and laughing about tax payers when they meet for a golf game ..

They are using taxpayer money to spread propaganda supporting the Obama healthcare plan. "Senate Finance ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is raising concerns that a Department of Health and Human Services Web site that urges visitors to send an e-mail to President Barack Obama praising his health care reform plan may violate rules against government-funded propaganda." This link will take you to the letter sent to Kathleen Sebellius. http://grassley.senate.gov/news/Article.cfm?customel_dataPageID_1502=23730

In Portugal the political parties are financed by the taxpayer money. They receive a subvention based on the number of votes they get. It is said this is to avoid corruption, but I don't think it really works. In theory, I think the parties should live from the contributions received from their affiliates and the initiatives they promote. To be realistic, with the campaign prices, the most important parties spend a lot of money that is not covered by the public subventions...

I think subventions are everywhere but for sure that does not stop coruption, at contrary. Once have some power (local, parliament, govt, etc) a political party will SURE "produce" black money from different sources, mostly form bribes and thiefing public money. Politics is the same everywhere ..
