The worlds population is getting bigger. Year by year, millions of people are being added to the huge population. Along with this new diseases are being discovered afflicting people around the world. Remember the SARS, the Meningococcemia and now the H1N1. As a result, expensive vaccines have to be formulated by researchers to comabt these diseases. But what is the cause of these disease? Disease causing micro organisms. Yes! This micro organisms can be eliminated and spread of diseases prevented by just simple manners.
People spit, sneeze, cough or yawn in public, what should we do? Even though we observe frequent hand washing, microorganisms are in our whole body, in our dress, bags, things we carry. This different kinds of microorganisms, we bring to our family at home.
Think about this, a large percentage of us takes public transportation to and from the office everyday. In the train for example, its jampacked with passengers, almost all of them are sitted or standing so close to each other. One can breathe the others breath. Can smell its others sweat. Not only smell the sweat but the sweat of the one next to you can be your sweat too because of the skin to skin contact. When the one next to you sneeze and she does not know how to cover her sneeze you could feel the droplet right on your face. When someone coughs, still she forgot to cover her mouth you could smell that foul odor brought by the cough. Then here's another passenger on your left, she yawns with her mouth wide open that you can already see her hard palate and that triangular thing hanging at the opening of her throat. Wow! What a beauty!
Can't we just have some manners to cover our mouth when we sneeze, cough and yawn? Specially ladies in nice clothes going to the office. Then soon as you come out of the train here's a man coughing with phlegm and spit out the phlegm right on the pavement where the passengers who came out of the train are walking. Oh what a world of germs. Are we not taught proper manners by our parents and teachers? Comment please!

Hi,
It is said that man is a social animal. We should follow the social manners in our daily life. We should behave like a responsible citizen and we have some social responsibilities which we have to complete. We learn manners from our teachers, parents and our surrounded people.

Hi roshigo, thank you for responding too. I'm so glad that though this discussion was posted 4 years ago, there are still responses from mylotters like you. Primarily i posted this topic to remind some of us to be considerate of others when we are in public places as most of the illnesses are spread through unhealthy practices. Yes, this is taught in our home and school as early as elementary level, we only have to put these into practice. Thanks a lot.

Hi, triple, maybe you're right! Good manners can avoid micro organisms' spread in a way. And your post made me fearing. You know we have to contact with others every minutes. It's quite dangerous!
I just think bad manners may not the only reason. You know, when SARS spreaded in China in 2003, we all thought back what we had done. We kills other living creatures on the earth uncontrolled. That may be the other reason.
But anyway, we're supposed to be in good manners that's true.

Yes, OrangJuice, youre right maybe we should campaign or promote the practice of social manners to prevent the spread of germs. Many people forget to do that. I am sure theyw ere taught to observe such manners. We shold remind them once in awhile. But how can we do it, they might get offended.

Hi tripplejazzm,
This is a nice discussion. An eye opener for us here in Mylot. Despite all the information and advocacy in preventing air born diseases we forgot to be sensitive and considerate about the people around us. The examples that you've listed were grouse but people really don't mind sneezing, coughing, yawning without covering their mouth. Really irritating and i know if i will be vocal about telling them to have some manners i will be in trouble-- i know they will be offended.
We need extra effort to remind people about their manners and parents and teachers must reinforced this message. Let's all live a healthy life--free from any disease.
