I think cell phones are helpful. I dont think they have done anything great. My daughter has become a slave to hers. I think if you use them for emergencies then they're a great invention. If you are unable to function without it, then it's too much. I have been without a cell phone now for almost a month and a half. So far so good. I have a home telephone so I just use that. I think that cell phones have caused alot of troubles for people. Between the texting while drinving and the simple immaturity, teens are being hurt terribly by cell phones. My younger daughter would rather have a laptop so she can IM rather than a cell phone. Which I must admit that I am sooo happy. I do, on the other hand, think that a cell phone can be helpful in an emergency situation. To call for help or to call a parent for a ride and so forth. I think overall that they're more of a problem if anything. dl

they're more of an emergency thing to me.
i don't even own one,if that tells you
i will say it's much better than trying to find a working pay phone if the need should arise.

Its exactly as you say Scarlet! Only for emergencies. I have one but I dont even use it that often. I've bought one for my younger daughter and she lost it. THat was that. She has never even asked for another one. Thank god she's not like my other daughter. My other daughter is a fanatic. She cant breathe without hers. What can I say. She must have gotten that from her dad. lol Happy MyLotting dl

I think they are great to have for people to get ahold of you, but I also think that people talk on them way too much. I still don't understand why people want to text, as you can talk faster than texting back and forth.

I think cellphones are great, but some of the people who use them are idiots. A cab driver told me today about a cab in the fleet that was rear-ended because of an idiot texting while DRIVING!!!
I like my cellphon for when I am out and need to call a cab, or call home to let people know when I will be there, or call in if I am going to be late for an appointment, but I do not have a cellphone in order to be social. For that I have THE INTERNET! :)

I love all 5 of my cell phones and yet I'm not a slave to them. also I don't use them as much as I'd like. I can't wait till I get my I-phone, where I can have more apps. I'm a responsible adult so I don't talk or text while driving, as well as talk for hours exposing myself to harmful radiation.

Cell phones are just like almost every other things in our life, they can be a great tool but if mis-used, it can cause problems. Knife in the hands of cook can help create some of the most wonderful food, or in the hands of sick, twisted killer, well, you get the idea. I rely on my cell phone & my laptop for work. They make my job a lot easier & I can do it more effectively. As strange as it may sound, I think people should be more aware of their surroundings & how they're using their cell phone can affect others.

Hi dloveli, I think they are a terrible nuisance, they make strange unnecessary beeps but are good as alarm clocks, I used mine yesterday to remind me what times the cakes would come out of the oven.
I admit I need one, for driving over the mountain in case I break down but I wish people wouldn't ring it as I hate the constant accessibility angle of them. They are excellent though for co ordinating meeting points and times when a long drive is involved and the arrival time can't be gauged in advance due to the likelihood of a coffee stop. I think the text facility should be banned as it promotes bad use of English.

I only use my phone for texting and calling, it is only mainly for communication purposes hahaha. But before, I got so hooked, but now I lost the enthusiasm about cellphones, I don't even mind if my cellphone is not the latest model. As long as it works, and don't need scotchtape or masking tape to be put together, it is ok with me hehe.

My mobile phone is my only link to my parents since the three of us are in different countries. My parents don't want to learn how to use a computer no matter how many times I've explained to them that the internet offers cheap ways of communication. I agree that one may be able to function without it but for me I guess there would be lots of opportunities I'll miss without my cellphone like job interviews, easier and faster communication with friends and relatives locally and overseas or personal calls, officials calls, etc. I guess it depends on your location (as some countries offer cheaper rates on mobile phones)and your job to say whether a cellphone is a problem or not.

I view on cell phones are they come into use when you need them. You really never know when there come a day that something might just come up, and you need to get a hold of important people. Now, a days cell phone are used for everything, internet, texting, e-mails and etc. Somethings I leave the house without it and I feel so disconnected. I think that wrong because as a person I should relay on it so much. Youngs adults have them now and some of them drive that get into trouble just texting on the phone and watching the road. That with everyone not just young adults. They can be the biggest cause of what happens on the roads at school. I think that it comes in handy when children and teenagers need to contract their parents. Or, when parents need to get a hold of the children to see when there coming home or where there at. If anything they can be helpful.

As for me, I think using cellphones are fine as long as you use it accordingly. However, if you use cellphone too much its not good anymore. Not only cellphones, this will apply to any other thing, hence if you use a thing in a proper manner is perfect, but, if the thing was over used or misuse, it will not be as good as before.

cell phones are very good thing. Example...you buy nokia n82 like me, its got wireless, gps, 5mpx cam, and other stuffs. You go to another town you cant find a street, gps on your phone helps you...You want something to chek on net, your email, face, hi5, myspace status and events you connetct trought wireless on the net...If you had goes somewhere, and you want to make a photo, you can make a photo with your phone. your digital cam has lost or its damaged, you still have your phone...and other think like alarm, reminder...And offcorse dont forget the most important funktion, you are in truble, you can call somebody to help you....

My views on it are pretty much the same as yours. I think that cell phones are great for emergencies, but are bad if people abuse them (especially kids and teenagers) if they are always on them and practically attached to it.
My husband has to have one for work as he has to be ready at a moments notice. With the line of work that he is in his boss needs to be able to contact him, even when my husband is at work, as there may be more or less of a load that day. Sometimes work falls through altogether and his boss will call him for that as well, saving my husband a wasted trip out to the job site. But my husband isn't attached to his cell phone. If anything he'd rather not have one at all. But it is required by his boss, so he doesn't really have a choice.
Happy mylotting!

I completely agree. Before cellphones are a necessity, but as time pass by, it just became a want or another accessory. Here in our country, you'll be able to see 7 y.o. kids having their own cellphones which I think, they wouldn't really need. Cellphones are great when used properly :)

Lots of people seem to be completely addicted to their cell phones these days. I myself wouldn't be able to survive a week without one, but i'm not as bad as some people who rate only oxygen above their cell phones in the "Required To Live Category". The cellphone is super convenient, light weight and wireless so why wouldn't everyone want one. Its necessary to carry one in case of an emergency (best to always be prepared after all). Texting isn't a necessity and that addiction has to be curbed early by parents before it gets out of hand. I was addicted to messaging but i weened off of it slowly when i saw my excessive phone bills.
