Do you ever go on unplanned leaves/vacation?

Recently, I took a 10 days leave from my office to spend the time with my family on a festival. I had to inform my manager a month ago that i will be taking a leave of 7 working days to go home. I just wonder, that to take a leave of so many days, I had to inform my manager a month ago. So, how would people manage to go on unplanned leaves? Its not just a question of taking a leave from office? I would like to ask people if they ever think of going on an unplanned trip? Do you take such instantaneous decisions to start of for a trip the very next moment. Seriously speaking, I would love to be in such a situation but then practically its very difficult. Its not possible for everyone to go through that dilemma? So whats your say?

Well, I definitely never took an unplanned vacation ever. I guess its just not in me to go on out without any planning. Well, people who work might be finding it more difficult to get that sort of thing worked out as the leave might b a problem. I always be a bit careful in most of the things and vacations? they should be planned perfectly out for me......

Vacation leaves have to be approved in advance by the head of our office. It should be done at least 5 days before. You will be considered on AWOL (absence without leave) if you go on an unapproved leave. Company policies vary. I have worked in both private and government offices and I find that leave policies in government offices are more relaxed.

I know that. But I was talking about going on leaves without planning any. Have you ever done that? U might come across some instances where you will have to go on leaves on an emergency. What would you do then?

Thanks for the BR mark! For very important reasons that you go on emergency leave, we are also provided with that privilege. You just need to inform them by phone that you would like to request to be allowed to go on emergency leave, stating, of course, the date you are expected to return for work.
