The Other 90% of Our Brain.

Guys, just want to share to you about these cool facts about the other 90% of our brain. I've got this from a book titled "Double Your Brain Power" by Jean Marie Stine, this was given to me by my uncle. They say that humans actually use only 10% of our brain, that the other goes unused, the book says this is a misconception. The unused portion is actually closer to 99%. The following questions posed by these scientific facts about our mental capacities which is actually quoted in "The Brain" by the late Professor Isaac Asimov. "Why aren't we better learners, when we have 200 billion brain cells? (That's many stars as there are in some galaxies.)" "Why aren't we better at remembering, when our brains are capable of retaining about 100 billion bits of information? (That's the equivalent of 500 encyclopedias.)" "Why aren't we faster thinkers, when our thoughts travel at more than 300 miles per hour? (That's faster than the fastest bullet train.)" "Why aren't we better at understanding, when our brains have over 100 trillion possible connections? (That puts the most sophisticated computer to shame.)" "Why aren't we more creative, when we average 4,000 thoughts every 24 hours. (That's 40 dollars a day at a penny per thought.)" I was really amazed of this comparison when I first read it and I thought that this is not really impossible if we could only use our brain a little more. What do you think?

This is true, you know what, i needed to read your post 3 times, so i could capitulate on the matter, I saw this in Discovery channel, that we only use a small portion of our brain, It does not really bother me cause its not only me but everybody's brain as well, they also cited some interesting notions/ or findings that Sir Albert Einstein and other renowned inventors and scientist were actually using more than the usual 10%, they say Einstein only sleeps like an hour a day, and that somehow manage his brain to work proportionally. Same is true with other Scientist but i FORGOT their names.

Cool! You mean because their brain are more active and works more than regular they couldn't sleep well like we do? I'm getting more and more good answers here. Thanks for this, I'll look for some videos regarding this on discovery channel. Thanks

i rather sleep well than to learn how to use those unused part of my brain.

this is still not confirmed and there are still some doubts as to whether we only use small percent of the brain while the bigger part are remained unused. but i think if this is true, i don't think that is possible to tap those other percent as i think that we are really created to tap only those small percent and beyond that it will be too hard and takes such a great effort to do that if it is possible at all. but i am not really much concerned in tapping those other parts as i believe that will not be the secret of success. i think that my life can still go on without tapping those unused percent of the brain.

Yup, I think I've heard and read some things about tapping our brain to increase our capability of memorizing, critical thinking, and others.

but it is such an interesting info if it is true that we are not using most part of our brain. i wish we can tap it easily. but i think until now they no one are able to use it even the author of that book itself or the one who discovered this report. anyways, we can just still develop and increased our knowledge without much worrying how much percent of the brain have we used more than before.

I have read similar publications about how much percentage of the brain is being used and they are giving different figures. No matter what the figures are, one thing is obvious, that the fullest capacity of the brain is still to be tapped and put to use. We tend to limit what we can do but the actual fact is that there are really no bounds to what the brain can do. If only we can use at least 20% of our brains, then computers are no match to what we can do. We just have to learn how to push the performance envelop a little farther. enjoy!

Yup, I wished we could use a little bit more percent of the full capacity of our brain. I think these theories are the ones used in TV shows like "Heroes" where all their power came from their brain and from the next evolution of man.

All that seems to be right....even I have read a book which convinced me that I was using a very small portion of my brain....It actually tells that out brains works like computer which stores all the information that you enter...but without a reference to that data the data is lost....It also gives few methods for creating reference to all the data that you store...

Wow? That's cool, so the best thing to memorize something is to have a reference? I think it's same with this. If I'm memorizing something, I can use their first letter and make an acronym, which the acronyms will be much easier and will be use as my reference, right?

i have onetimes read about the human brain power, the world greates scientist who studied the human brain say, when human use the another 60 percent of human brain then they will be able to move object like in movies the telekinesis... Then whe will have luke skywalker on the earth, and we can retire George Lucas :) Little Joke about star wars

LOL. We wouldn't needed to use special effects in movies when moving objects.

Very interesting! I wish I could learn how to use 100% of my brain! But only like three people in the world can use like 40%.

There are people who can use 40%? Who are they?

Ooh... I like this topic. Based on my readings on this issue before, human using only 10% of their brain is actually a myth. As we know, human brain contains cerebral cortexes, neurons, glial, and so on. Obviously not all part of brain is being used at once. At any given time, only 5% of neuron are active, and some areas are more active than the others, depending on the tasks at hand. But all the parts do something, and it seems safe to say that over time, you use pretty much all of your brain. Maybe there's a misconception somewhere.... =)

First of all, I will be realy happy if I see a person that can use 10% of his brain. Second, if you are able to use even 30-40% of your brain you will need amazing amount of to power you up since almost 90% of your energy goes for your brain. Third do you actualy want to remember everything? Just think about it to remember every single moment from your life even things, small things that have no value at all. Fore example to remember what have you got for brekfast at 12 july 2001? Not so cool huh? Or imagine this, you get more than 1000 brilliant ideas every day, and you can rememmber them. Can you make them all come true? You dont actualy have the time to do it, you cannot act as fast as your brain work, you simply cannot do everything you think of.
