With Halloween right around the corner. And me in the middle of reading 'Midnight Bayou', by Nora Roberts aka J.D. Robb, my mind got to wondering.
Do you believe in Black Magic, Voodoo or Witchery?
I remember as a child my grandmother used to 'pray' over warts and ring worms. It was all done in French so really didn't understand exactly what she was saying. She would make the sign of the cross over the ailment and say her prays. Her only rule for it to work was that you couldn't tell her thank you. The ailment would be gone within 2 days.
Then I had an aunt who read cards. I don't mean tarot cards, this was way before tarot cards. I mean good old fashion playing deck cards. She would tell the persons future and within a months everything she said came to pass.
I didn't think anything of it as a kid, just thought it was natural. I don't believe in Black Magic and have been told, that it can only harm you if you believe in it.
But now when I think about it, is it some kinda magic?

I met a young elf the other day who was very sad. He said that his people and also the fairies would have much better life on Earth if humans will not put so much energy in thinking about black magic. Without humans thinking about it, there would be no black witchcraft :)

Also before you try it out I don't recommend it, I've read up on it a little bit an their is dangers, like for one they say if they wake up before you leave, that you leave a piece of yourself behind an become ill, I never had that happen to me.
Also I read that entering people's dreams makes them tired because you steal of their energy, I can't confirm that either.

I just did some reading up on it, since I usually don't try it, I don't mess with it.
Anyways it is called dream walking, it is not something recommended to people who aren't natural dream walkers, because someone who dream walks that encounters danger is not powerful enough to fight off the danger or get away.

Voudou is a religion and very much alive. Much of it isn't to do with magic directly but the practitioners relationship with gods and spirits.
Witchcraft can have a variety of meanings including relgious witchcraft (such as Wicca) to folk magick practices such as your grandmother used to do. There is a lot of Christian Folk magic but most of the practitioners would lay you out with a single punch if you called them Witches!
Black magic is usually used to specify something done for harmful purposes but most magic users themselves don't call it anything other than magic either way.
Strong belief that you are protected from magic could, indeed, protect you from magic. After all, in many forms it is the will of the spell caster that does the magic and if your will/belief is stronger it could block the harm.

If you've ever been down to Louisiana you might change your mind on the voodoo. I believe that there is evil in this world. Voodoo scares me and I am not easily scared. I believe that there is power behind their beliefs and I don't think it is from a good source. It may come form my Christian beliefs in good and evil. I have never seen or experienced directly any form of voodoo but I still believe in it's power and people's ability to direct that negative energy. As far as the fortune telling - I'm on the fence with that one. Haven't had enough exposure and information to make any type of decision.

wlee9696, I am originally from Louisiana, was born in New Orleans, and been to the Voodoo Queen's place many of times. However as I said, there is what is called 'Black Magic'(known to some as the evil magic), which I don't believe in. It is said if you don't believe in it, it can't harm you.

Well I have weird gift I can't control for one I can predict things that have no bearing on anything, like tv's reruns or something, I chain many insignificant things together its so weird.
Also I can enter people's dream I have it a few times, I don't know how, basically It's like I go in an and take them over, I guess I'm able to do it because I can control my own dreams, as soon as I realize I'am dreaming I will take over the dream an do whatever I want with it.
I usually leave the tv on while I sleep so I dream about what is on tv instead of my own dreams or entering other peoples dreams.
I have had friends tell me they knew I was in their dream, because we would both know the outcome of the dream an what it was about, the 1st time I ever done it though was with some girl at school, she never told me but I knew, because I heard her say something about it to someone an during the day she was looking at me very odd, so I knew an like I said I know everything that happened in that dream so I knew she was there, during that dream I learned some interesting things about her, that later turned out to be true, I won't go into details.
So yeah I learned I can enter people's dreams, never heard of this among my family but I do know my uncle has psychic ability, he only used it to predict lottery numbers an not millions of dollars but a couple thousands at a time, haven't seen him in awhile otherwise I may ask for some numbers...lol

I control the dreams, most people can't control their dreams, so I just take them over.
Did it freak me out no, I thought it was cool when I first did it, an I did some very naughty things with it...lol
So it got to a point where I decided it wasn't right so even though I don't know how I'am doing do it, I try not to do it.

Yes I'am sure, an I usually only enter women's dreams...lol
To enter your dream I would need to know you better, like your face an name, also I don't really control how I do it, so I doubt it would work unless I really really wanted to enter your dream.
IF you want to know about it do a search on dream walking.

I dont believe in "Black Magic" but I also dont believe in "White Magic" either....to me and in my life magick has no colour...it just is..but thats a whole different topic LOL
Being a Witch myself and having Vodou in my personal spiritual path yes of course I do believe in them and I hate to say that both are still very much misunderstood...Same with Santeria...another very misunderstood path...
I read tarot but would love to try my hand at playing deck readings...I've just not had the time or chance to educate myself on doing it that way...

I believe in the existence of spirits and the paranormal. I have heard a lot about withcraft, black magic and voodoos but I would rather not get myself into them. I am happy with my faith in God and don't see any need to dabble in these things. People may have different beliefs and they don't see anything wrong. To each his own, maybe.
cheers!

definitely believe in Magic. in my experience it tends to be more electric blue than white or black though.
I believe in Voudou, yes, definitely. a good friend is Creole, after all, and is very accomplished at what she does.
and Witchery, well of course

as a religious person, I believe in the existence of black magic or supernatural powers, even though it's difficult to prove but I still believe that because the religious books also mention these things

I believe that it exists, but I don't believe, as someone else says, that it comes in colors! I think it is all part of the same thing but can be used in different ways, I suppose.
As a Christian, I find many people around me in the church say 'its just a load of rubbish' but, while there are things which are just fake and people messing around, I believe the is the authentic version around - I don't really know why that is hard for people to believe who already believe in a spiritual dimension.
In my faith, the Bible tells us to have nothing to do with such things, but I would have to look into the specifics of the context of those passages to really know WHAT we are being warned against and whether it lines up with what people think it is now, if that makes sense. (Which I should do, but haven't, so I will reserve judgement on any practise unless I know what I'm talking about!)

Interesting discussion. Personally I believe in magic in many ways. I think there are postive and negative to most things. I am a firm believer that the mind is an amazing thing and that our minds can really do anything we can think up. My brothers and father were in a cult when I was young and I remember some very crazy things that they did. They had a lot of visions and were able to create things out of nothing. It was very scary to me. I think that what we can do in life is only limited by what our minds can think up.

Black Magic means dealing with or through the devil and I won't do that because of my committment to God Himself. I prefer a being who's objective is love to that of one who's objective and purpose is power and hatred of love. I do know that these things can work but they do so in the small and arbitary sense. God works much better in the broader and more life-giving sense.

I don't believe in Black Magic, I am not entirely sure about the whole subject as I do not know much about it. I would like to believe in the spirit world as I find comfort in the fact that loved ones hang onto this realm and look over us. I know there are many who believe and practice the dark arts, but what results they get are unknown and unproven.
