Advice on gay-bullying in the private school sector

I currently teach at an all boys boarding schools. As is the nature of the beast, homophobia tends to flourish in this close-minded, entitled community. We are supposedly molding the elite, but I'm scared to watch them branch out (with all the financially limitless options they've been handed in life) into future citizens of the world. Although our administration outwardly states that they are supportive in putting a stop to verbal bashing of an openly get teen, I have seen the faculty turn and state the same things students have. I work at a school where the term "p*ssy" was used by a veteran faculty member in direct regard to a student. To me, this is beyond unacceptable and is undeniably, harassment. Needless to say, this is a job I am looking to leave as soon as the opportunity presents itself. However, that being said....in the meantime...what can one do to stay afloat and stay true to what is right and wrong (other than simply stating it)....? Cheers for thoughts.

Hi aghfied, I see that you are new here so welcome to myLot. I hope that your stay will be long and enjoyable and that you will make many friends as well as some money. Now to your discussion, I feel that you are the type of person that is needed where you are. Gay-bullying must stop and it looks like some of the teachers there are encouraging it. Those students are the leaders of the future and there is no place in the future for such discrimination. We are all children of the universe with a right to be here and why would anyone persecute someone for the way they were born. There would be an uproar if someone who was born blind was being bullied and there is no difference. As is usually the case when it comes to discrimination, it is the fundamentalists in all religions that are the biggest culprits and many people are deserting religion entirely because of such unenlightened people. Thank you for what you are doing and please continue to oppose harassment wherever it is found. Blessings.
