I have two small children and I named them Anders and Wylder. I love both of their names very much and I decided to name them as soon as I found out they were boys. I think they are very nice names but they do not really mean anything to my family. They are not named after anyone and they do not have anything to carry on from loved ones. What about you? What did you name your children and did you name them after a loved one?

Their names don't also come from a book and your right it is just something that come from our minds. Yes, they are very sweet and lovable.

You are very creative. These are two great names. Are Rhym and Rhyll old enough to tell you what they think of their names? I look forward to having my boys be old enough to get a real answer to that question. I like to think I did a good job naming them, but I have known many people who really do not like their names.

Those are great names. I like the spelling of Chyann. Very unique. Did you meld two words to get Mekal? Do you know what Kana and Emiko mean? Does the meaning fit your girls?

How wonderful that you let your in law name your first born. And what a great choice! I love the names and the meanings. Thank you for sharing. Emiko sounds like it should mean beautiful. Are you planning any more children in the future?

I believe that too much emphasis is put on a name. I named my son Tyler. When I was little it was the first time I heard that name on t.v.. It was a football player and I said that is the name I want my son to have. I don't watch football but it was a beautiful name. So many people name there children after biblical names, but that does not make them Jesus or Mary. So, name your kids what you feel in your heart to name them but take into account the teased factor.

That is great. Football will be fun. I hope my boys are athletic and play lots of sports. I did not have football at my school but I imagine it would be a little scary to have a child playing such a dangerous sport. I guess with a name like Anders I will have a swimmer on my hands. And, with a boy named Wylder, rugby will be in my future.

Perhaps there is too much emphasis on names but I feel like my sons names shape their personalities in many ways. Do you see that at all with Tyler?

I just had my son 3 weeks ago. I went through many names to find something unique that had a nice meaing. I finally chose Zakai which is Hebrew and means "Pure". I think the name is beautiful and I love that I was able to find it.

Zakai is a great name. I have never heard of that one! I love it. Do you think he will be called Zach or Kai? Would you mind if he had a nickname or are you going to try and preserve the entire name? I really do love that name, it is very unique!

I'm not sure of any nicknames just yet. It'll probably take some time to see what fits him the best.

Good point. I quess you do need to see his personality first. Is he a good baby for you? Does he sleep well? I love babies so much and really could not get enough of those days. I hope you are getting plenty of sleep.

I named my three children asccording to the character quality that I would like to develop in them.
For instance, my first boy's name is Zhi Ming, which means wisdom and understanding. My second boy's name is Zhi Heng which mean wisdom and perservance. This is more relevant for Chinese name.
I asked my children to select their Chinese name when they were in my womb. I asked them, I have shortlisted a few names and explain to them the meaning of names to them . If they liked the name, they kicked three times when I read out the name. They were very happy and proud of it because they selected their names.
In fact, you can look for the meaning of the name and give the character quality to the child. It is a guiding way for them to develop their character in future.
Ini addition, I select the Baptism name of my children based on the character quality that given from the list of Baptism name. It is fun and give character guidance for my children in future. What kind of children you want them to grow up to be?
All the best in selection of name. It is fun.
Regards

I agree about naming our children to fit a character. Did you really name both your boys Zhi? How do you differentiate between them? Do you always call them by both names?

Thank you for explaining that. I love that your eldest son is considered understanding. I imagine that is fitting of his personality. I think the eldest child needs to possess such a trait.

"Zhi" means wisdom which is the common quality that I want to develop for my children. I usually call my eldest son "Ming" which means understanding. I call my second son "Heng" which mean perservance.

I love your daughters name, how pretty. Where did you find that? It is nice that you gave them the middle name after the father. Seems like a good way to go really.

I wish you all the best with having your 3 angels. Very great names too. I like how you combined the names, what a great idea. Perhaps you could combine Lylanie an Gabril to get the third name?

Thank you so much! I like the names quite a bit. It is funny how many people ask you that question. It is almost like when you are getting married and you are always asked "When are you going to have kids?" and then once you have your first kids and people are visiting in the hospital and ask "are you going to have anymore". It is like a standard or something.

Those are very neat names my son had a little boy named Anders in his preschool class last year. I have three kids. My daughter Tresa was named after a one time character on Start Trek next generation my husband wanted the name Jennifer and I wanted Danielle and neither one of us liked the other's choice, when we heard that name on the television, I said, "That's a cute name." my husband agreed and we agreed that would be the name if we were to have a girl. My first born son is named after his father, and my youngest was named by my middle child who said for years when he was really little that he wanted a baby brother and he wanted to name him Justin, when we found out I was pregnant with a little boy we decided to let him have his way.

That is such a wonderful story. I love that the big brother was able to name you little one. If Anders had his way, Wylder would have been named Goat. We tossed it around but just could not think of a good middle name. Tressa is a great name. If we have a little girl then I may want to name her Adalaide. I really like Charlie for a girl as well.

The name we picked for our oldest child was chosen because I thought it went well with our last name and, more important, there was no one in either of our families by that name. However, when it came to naming our second child, my husband was happy to give her the feminine version of his middle name. She, then, became his favorite child. I have occasionally wondered if we should have used that name for our son, the first child.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing. I can see why you would wonder if the name should have gone to the eldest. I can't imagine having a favorite child though. There is so much I like in both children it would be hard to pick which one was better...

I think Anders and Wylder are great names!
I am interested in names and I think it comes from being adopted - my original name was Amanda, and my adopted name is Ruth. When I was adopted, it was by a Christian, church going family and they named me after the Biblical Ruth. I find that interesting now , not so much because its Biblical but because the woman in that story moved from her own country to another, and I moved from England to America.
But I am Amanda too, as I have made contact with my birth family and my grandmother still calls me Amanda, or they call me AJ (for Amanda Jane, my full name) That is ok with me as that is what they have called me among themselves for 30 years until we met again.
Some friends of mine called their little boys Riley and Tyler, which I like.

Thank you! What a great story you have with your names.I imagine it was quite awkward to be called Amanda by your birth family. I do love the name Amanda Jane. I had a good friend when I was younger with that name. How funny to that you were named Ruth and almost mimicked her story. Well, at least the travel part. I do like the names Riley and Tyler as well. How nice that you made contact with your birth family.

I named my child Jaleah, which means God's gift and noble woman. No, her name is not like anyone in my family. Her father actual came up with her name. I like her name because it has meaning behind it. Regardless of what the child's name is they are still apart of the family. A name is an identity and everyone needs their own.

I like your take on the name being an identity that everyone needs. Very well put! Jaleah is a great name. Her father came up with a good one. And, it has great meaning. Do you call her by any nicknames? Or, does anyone else?

I didn't name my son after anyone in the family. I just named him a name that I liked. My husband's family wanted me to name him after their family because my husband is named after his dad and grandpa. I told them it was my child and I didn't want to name him after anyone. I wanted him to have his own name and not have to share it with anyone in the family. They didn't say anything more about it after that. lol

I did not name my kids after anyone either, I just picked a name I liked. My daughter is Ashley and my son is Alexander, so if I have another baby I would stick with the A theme! It's kinda silly but I like it that way!

my partner and i came up with our sons name tyson one during milking. after no one in particular, then his middle is after his father. i kept that bit of tradition, cause it does run in my side of the family to an extent. for a girl i wanted gabbreil andriene (sorry can't even spell it) if i have another boy i want antonio. as for me my mum had my name picked out when she was a kid, she's even still got the doll i was named after. i want something different name wise, not a common name. one that people will remember.

Wow, your mom picked your name when she was a child. That is pretty cool. I agree about having one that people remember. I think it makes quite an impression when you have a stand out name.
I grew up with a girl names: Summer Sunshine Lindsay Winter Windowpane Inman Keene. She was quite a girl. We used to have competitions to see who could say her name the fastest.

I don't have children yet, but I am looking forward to have. We are in the process of collecting names. My husband is doing that job and we both discuss and I cut off some names. He wants a girl child so he is very interested in collecting girl names, infact he doesn't have any boy names. It is me who wants a boy and so that it is my responsibility to collect boy names. I live in India and the names of your sons are new to me.

I babysat a little boy name Dakota when I was younger and I always loved that name. I really like your spelling of it too! Lakisha is a great name, where did you find that? Do you know anything about the meaning? Your family must have been thrilled that you were carrying on names.
