For parents who have school aged children, do you notice a similarity in performance to how you did in school to that of your children? I mean are your children as good in school grade wise as you were? or vice versa. NOw that my son is getting older, I'm starting to think about a lot of different things and trying to figure out ways to make his life easier or better than my own and I'm thinking about a lot of stuff that has yet to come even it its far into the future. We all can see how time flies and before you know it, kids will be graduating and we'll be retiring.

I agree to teach children before they go to pre-school. I taught my children by using flash card, sign language and Montessori home teaching so that I develop their learning interest, skill and foundation before pre-school. The character of attentiveness, orderliness, responsibility have to established before primary school.
When they reach Praimary One (Grade One), I slowly let go of checking on their homework and spelling as they have already developed the skills that required by school. When they have problems in homework, they will find their solution first. When they make a mistake in their school work, they will learn from it.It is a good learning process for my children. I feel more at ease as my first two children are in Primary School.

I am happy to hear that you would like to try out the methods. It is good to plan ahead on skills, knowledge and character development for your child. Then, you can find the activities that fit into your teaching aim. Try to strike a balance amony the knowledge, skill and character development as they are pillars of learning in their life time. Enjoy your planning of activities. Cheers.

I feel that my daughter is doing better than I did. Since schools are starting to teach things earlier, I started teaching my daughter at home early. By the time she started Kindergarten, she already knew all her ABC's and how to write them, numbers, colors, how to write her full name, how to count to 50, and so much more. Also, her vocabulary was excellent. I believe this helped her to do better than I did.

Wow teaching things before school must be a great help since it probably makes it easier to understand better if you've had exposure to certain things beforehand. I better have the same things down for my son when he gets to be school age. I wonder if it is possible that in the future, children will be required to know the Abc's before starting kindergarten. Educational standards have come a long way since I was in school.
