Plant that Will Grow Soon?

I want to give a pot full of dirt and have a nice plant grow out of it. Its supposed to be a surprise so it would be best if it started growing within a week or two and wasn't especially complicated.
I'm not planning a huge garden or anything, I just want to surprise a lady friend. My previous plan was a tulip bulb but apparently they take several weeks just to take root so that's out of the question. Thanks in advance!

Hi, depending on whether this will be a houseplant for your friend, or one that can be planted outdoors at some point, it is best if you buy one that is already growing. No many plants can grow from seed or a bulb in the short time frame you've mentioned. The plant shouldn't cost you too much, if that is a concern :))
