Anyone know how to travel smart?

I want to go around this world and twice again.
Egypt, Chile, Jamaica, India, I want to see it all! But obviously I cannot travel around luxoriously, I'd be broke.
Would people who have already traveled excessively, lend me ideas? Search engines I could use for decently priced hotels/airplane tickets perhaps? Maybe even careers that can allow me to travel everywhere!
And please don't suggest working for a business in sales; they travel for business, not to explore.

I have done some work to supplement my travel funds like I let my cottage out and went off to Australia with a working holiday visa. I have read travel guide books to find out the prices of accommodation, trains and buses. Some countries that I have been to are expensive like Norway and Sweden and others like Guatemala have been cheap. It helps to have emails from travel companies then you will know about special offers on plane tickets. You might like to become a tourist guide for an overland adventure company. Just imagine traveling with a group of travelers from Nairobi to Cape Town. Working for an airline would give you great deals on plane tickets when you do have time off. Good luck and happy traveling.
