calling all female gamers

Ok, so I admit it. That's right. I am a female gamer. Maybe not the best, but damn do I love playing and I think I do pretty damn well. I will even say that I must be somewhat decent because I am in a clan. The only female in the clan and I have my "big brothers" constantly protecting me.
I know, you are probably wondering what the could possibly be protecting me from. Well, let me tell you. Quite often I find that when I do speak up or talk during an online gaming session I am molested with off color comments, horrible names, and other rude and obnoxious statements from so called "men" who are also playing.
Usually I ignore it, but occassionally there are comments that are so outrageous and horrible that my big brothers will step in and voice their opinion. Yes, I think that everyone in my clan has at one point or another had a negative mark against against their profile. And usually they are received when they are sticking up for their fellow clan members. Now, please understand. I don't sit back and just let them do the fighting for me. It is just that sometimes it doesn't matter what I say it just eggs them on. I will not call people names, I will not insult them, nor will I stoop to their level. Yet they just can't help it. At least that is what I am guessing because all they do is keep up their name calling and ignorance. And if it gets bad enough I just shut up and say nothing further. Why encourage it? That is just as bad as what they are doing. Nor will I leave the game room because I will not let them win.
Now, I will say that today it has ruffled my feathers more than usual. I am not sure why. I had to leave for work in a couple of hours so I figured I would play a couple matches of COD: WAW. And now I wish I hadn't of. I didn't realise my mic. was on and while I was playing I actually said something to my other half. And of course from there it all went downhill. It wasn't just 1 or 2 obnoxious people. It was my ENTIRE TEAM. Please explain how that many ignorant people ended up in one room? And the most ironic part was that I kicked their butts. Which of course meant I was cheating or glitching. Come on, seriously? I only know of 2 glitches in that game. Neither of which really help you to accomplish anything. And we weren't even on those maps.
Now I really want for the male population of gamers to understand something. I am in no way calling all of you ignorant. In fact I have made many male gamer friends while playing the xbox 360. And there really are some awesome guys out there willing to play with females and actually enjoy it. But why does it seem like the majority of the guys that I run into are so ignorant and malicious with thier words?

This reminds me of a discussion I saw a while back about a female gamer who was being harassed. It's sad when things like this happen. I'm a female gamer but my husband and I don't have xbox live yet so I haven't ran into any kind of trouble with stupid guys, though trust me I am sure my husband would have a few choice words for them, especially since most likely he'd be in the room with me, or if not he'd hear about it later.
Actually we have a 360 and wii, and i think wii has the same capabilities of talking to people whilst playing a game but I'm not sure... In any case, Some men are immature gamers... and that's just that.
